New Burner with a question
Hello all, I was curious how one finds a camp to be part of. I have spent many hours in the camp section reading about what the camp has to offer and what they are about. But the real question is: How does a newbie just show up and say " Hey Im gonna hang out over here and camp with you strangers for the next week" Is there a spot on this site were others like myself can hook up.....or do I just post a new thread....... Hello, looking for other 420 friendly people who are not on a time frame and looking to start a new camp....where the ladies always have smiles, and the mens beers are never more than 1/2 empty. 26 foot travel trailer with 12 foot slide out. Bathroom and SHOWER !!!!! LOL maybe Ill get a few responses LOL

Here's a few ways I can think of:
1) Know a bunch of people already and go with them. If you don't know enough burners or can't talk enough friends into becoming burners, this won't work.
2) Participate in building a project of some sort and camp with them. You can wait for help requests to come in a few months before the event, or you can try to pimp yourself out, or you can try to reach existing groups/camps and offer to help out. Be prepared with something to offer - skills, cargo space, rides, shade structures, etc.
4) Try to gather a bunch of stragglers and start a camp of your own.
5) Do none of the above, and just show up with your own gear. Scope out camps, introduce yourself, and ask if you can join them.
Edit - note that you should count on having at minimal gear of your own even if you join a camp that already has what you need. No matter how cool people seem back home there's always the possibility of drama once you get out there and it's nice to have the option of bailing.

You can also go to the camps pages off the main page, and contact people, asking them if they are looking for new peeps and what their criteria are. Treat them as informational interviews, more interested in process then results.

Show up at Gigsville, they are easy to find, well-established and will totally take you in with open arms. It never hurts to tell them this is your first time, and that you are 420-24/7.
If you want to meet sweet honeys at BM, I wouldn't worry so much about your admittedly nice sounding RV, and instead make sure you show up with an assload of mardi-gras beads and go shirtcocking in a tie-dye.

There is also RV Camp which is at Center Camp right on the Esplanade, just to the 6:30 side of the 6:00 radial. ( If you have trouble locating it, ask around for Larry RV, they should be able to point you in the right direction. It's the biggest, baddest RV on the playa and is parked in RV camp every year).Don Muerto wrote:Show up at Gigsville, they are easy to find, well-established and will totally take you in with open arms. Another idea would be to locate BLD and just let them know you are camping there and put down stakes whereever there is some free space available. They will appreciate the shade from your RV.

Lots of great suggestions here. I'd say the only way to do it right is to try them all within the first two days, then go take a nap. Also, paint in big black letters down the side of your RV "Fuck You". People will think you're DPW and won't try to make you take responsibility for anything you do.

Seriously, I think I could join any camp in the city and be content.
But there are a lot of differences in style and logistics.
It is worth the trouble to get to know how some of them work.
I don't actually spend much time at home anyway.
Next year, I'll probably be in a camp where that changes.
At Enthion, a very elaborate camp, they have reefer trailers and each person is flash frozen at night to stop aging and then reanimated in the morning.

So then where do all the good looking ladies from Oregon stay? Some have said they grow um better in Texas? I still have to make up my mind........but what group.....what camp. Are the names of the streets the same every year, and how will I know what camp is where and if I will have ample room to park. I propose ie. The Camp Share Board. Post a pic of yourself and what your bringing to camp. Tell about what your likes are, and make sure your compatable before you get in a fight and kill each other all week. I wish I could find a sweet honey who is willing to haul up 30 cases of Beer, 6 - 55 gal drums of water in return for hot showers anytime :) I guess ill just keep my eyes out and see what camp or theme village gets the most response. I am open to any and all offers. And yes. I run a generator. I need my blender.....DirecTV....Music.....and hell....the fridge. The keeper of the cold beer!!! Anyone else ever have this problem before?
