should i be concerned?

of the twenty-seven threads i've "contributed to" since joining the eplaya in september, six must now be considered comatose and unresponsive, in other words, permanently vegatative.

somehow i doubt it that mine is the final word on any of the six, and yet my interventions seem to drain the life out of these conversations the way airplane toilets flush away shit, piss, and detritus...in a single, deafening rush of vacuumed suction.

could it really be true, what my dead grand-father told me so many years ago? is it really the case that nobody like a wise-acre?

you could learn from others here who seem to get plenty of responses to their posts, i think. as far as i can tell, your problems are twofold:

1) your posts are sensible, rational, and well explained, so that people are automatically convinced of your position and have no need to reply with refutations or requests for clarification.

2) you're witty enough that people are reluctant to post immediatly following you, lest they look dull and uninspired by comparison.

You hit upon a phobia I have, it is actually a two fold phobia.

What if I start a thread and no one replies?

Don't I look silly when my post is the last one in a thread?

In either case I feel like I'm out there "twisting slowly in the wind..."

In any event I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think Trey is on to something also. Often I'll read a post, want to repond, but then I read through the responses and I often find that someone else said it better then I could have.

Drowned, I can relate to your concerns.

I recently posted the last message concerning bisexuality, with no response. I was hoping for a good conversation on the nature of gender but alas my attempted well thought out prose elicited no response.

Perhaps I don't belong on the Newbie-Playa anymore, it only seems vaguely interesting and an annoying network of exagerated and absurd flamers.

I miss the old one. sigh.

Oh no, not the additional "E" in my name again. No e, no e, no e. That little mispelling got me a year's worth of teasing( long annoying story).

While I believe we are born with certain reproductive organs, why do those organs determine what we will do for work, love, or anything else? I think gender is 90 % fabrication.

I fundamentally agree with you. I think there is some biological gender difference, but mostly it's culturally exageration. Why the fuss? And it's really, really weird having traits of 'both' genders. Talk about your "does not compute" with so many people.

Personally, not computing with most people makes me feel a little bit better about my role in the world. I don't want to meet people's pre-conceived and limiting ideas about what I am supposed to be in this society. It's certainly fun to tweak those boundaries a little, or a lot.

I think that's why burning man is so appealing to me, it tweaks and expands upon people's fixed realities.

i think women tend to be more bi because women don't fear the stigma attached to saying they think that another woman is attractive.

It's just a matter of the way we are socialized. Girls are able to express their same-sex desire in a way that is more cohesive to their socialized traits.

The stigma isn't as great either for women, because being bi can be seen as a fetish that men enjoy hearing about/seeing. It seems to be a controlled version of homosexuality, something that has a purpose.

Also think about the way traditional masculinity is revered in our culture? Action movies, muscle cars, sports, ultra fast productivity. For a man to engage in behavior that is perhaps marked "feminine", his value is decreased as a member of society.

I still stick to the point that, socialization steers a lot of men off the bisexual path and women onto it.

makes me think back to another post that said something about men being jealous of women because women can at least be able to, if anything be without fear of being stigmatized; just to paraphrase.

I belive there are still those that don't let the socialization steer them off the bisexual path. They just can't do very much about it sometimes.
The world is still a very complicated and volitile place.
