Adopt my brother David in Afghistan for Christmas....OK?

Post by Monkeypoo » Sun Nov 12, 2006 6:03 pm

OK. I'm hoping this doesn't sound cheesy. Actually, I'm thinking it would be a hoot.

As many of my burner family knows, my younger brother David is in the Army over in Afghanistan. He's a Medic-Hopter-Nurse....

Mom and I finally heard from him last week and he is doing well. Woo-hoo!! He went over there with the 145th Engineering Company to help rebuild their hospitals and roads. Each time I hear from him, I sigh a huge fucking sigh and thank the universe and stars and goddesses and Buddha that he and his company are still alive. Thank you, Buddy BeJeesus!! This weekend my mom and I baked 15 freaking dozen cookies for David and his buddies over there. The temptation to eat the cookie dough was almost more than I could freaking take, but I did not do it....%^$#^%!!!!! **grits teeth and shakes**

Anyhoo, I got an idea while baking Snicker-Doodles this past weekend. A few of my friends have already asked me for David's snail mail address - to adopt him for the Holidays....to let him know that we are thinking of them over there...and wishing them safety and love. When I told mom about this, she smiled and said, "Wouldn't he just shit his pants and grin ear to ear if all of a sudden he got 50-100 Christmas cards from a bunch of your burner friends?"

SOOO.... Monkeypoo is starting the "Please Adopt My Soldier Brother David" Christmas Holiday Campaign.

Yeah, OK, so when we were younger, he used to chase me with frogs and snakes - and occasionally I had to woop his fucking ass and show him who was boss beyotch, but all in all we were pretty cool siblings.

Did I ever tell you all the story about when I was 13 and he was 10 and we were living in Oregon? I was babysitting everyone and David was being a brat and was pissing me off about something, so when he got out of the bath, I threw him out in the snow on the front porch, took his towel away, and turned on the porch light......and locked the door out on his ass??!!!

**Monkeypoo giggles and smiles**

Moral of the story? Don't fucking piss off your older sister. :-P

We laugh about this now.

Anyhoo, David is a good brother. Blonde, smart, talented, tall, handsome, funny. When he comes back home, Mom and I are bringing him out to Burning Man in 2007. He already knows what living and working in a harsh desert is like, so he'll fit in right nice out there at Black Rock City.

His birthday is December 19th...a Sagittarius. He's also single. He likes camping, hiking, fishing and when he comes back home he's building a log cabin on his property in Wyoming. Jeez, Monkeypoo, now you're starting to sound like your pimping him off...... :-P I just love my brother, OK? :) I miss him. I want him to come home soon, but in the meantime I want him to know he is loved and appreciated.

Thank you for listening. :)

Wonderful idea. Kudo's to you Poo. Im sure your bro will smile from ear to ear when a few duffel bags of mail show's up at his platoon. I have already addressed the envelope, and now have to explain to your brother that I am a total stranger, have no idea who his sister is, tell him that he is in our prayers, oh ya.....and the next time he is in the southern california area. Breakfast is on me. LOL This is gonna be fun.

I heard from my brother David today. He left me a phone message. He called to wish me a Happy Birthday. I'm just glad to hear his voice. He told me that he would call me back about midnight my time tonight.

All I needed to hear was his voice. That was enough of a birthday present for me.

Guess what he got me for my birthday? :P Along time ago I asked him that maybe IF he could do it, would he please bring me home one of those BURKAHs that the women wear out there in Afghanistan. HE GOT ME ONE!!!!!

Thank you ALL who emailed me offline. Many are sending cards, many want to send more but didn't know what to send. After looking at their company's last newsletter called "The Tiger Tales" (dated in June from Down Range & Down Home")....

Here's what people are asking for... They need disposable razors, shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner, soap, hand sanitizer, Gold Bond foot powder, sunscreen, Carmex, Blistex, Chapstick, Tums, Rolaids, hard candies, gum, Slim Jims, beef jerky, disposable cameras, playing cards, dominoes, board games, cigars, calling cards, stamps, newspapers (from wherever!), magazines of any kind, books, homemade cookies, brownies (send them in tins)....cards, letters....love....support...

Thank you. Thank you so very much!

I seriously doubt this. Sometimes our friends are more of a family than our own bioligically families. I know my friends are. So are David's. You do NOT want to know what we all went through. But we don't dwell upon that shit. Life, after you move away from home, is such a wonderous Adventure, isn't it? We rose above it all...went through the doors and chapters in our lives...we arrived triumphantly. Who woulda thought that was possible?

I find that the more I get to know my Burner family - in all it's facets and differences and choices and lifestyles - in whatever states we come from -- THIS is where I belong, THIS is where I am supposed to be.

I am planted.

This is the place I shall grow....among my burner friends - whether they be from Washington state or Washington DC or San Francisco, Portland, Key West. NC, SC, CT, MA, NM, AZ, UT, WY, MI, VA, WV, KY.........
