My Virgin Burning Man Trip Report with Pictures

Post by karlbaba » Wed Nov 15, 2006 7:53 pm

I wrote a trip report about my virgin Burning Man experience. It's more or less intended to give non-burners a perspective on Burning Man but should have something for anyone to think about (or argue about, and tell me I'm full of it!)

Lots of pictures too.

This is one of the most profound treatises I've read on the Burning Man experience to date (and there are some great ones out there!). The musings that delve into the cultural and sociological aspects of the experience and how they compare or differ from those we experience in everyday life are food for thought. Several times I found myself nodding in agreement and thinking: Yeah, that's it!

Stunning photographs, too.

So Karl, are you a photographer who writes or a writer who photographs?

Wait... I can answer that one: YES!

I read it. I liked it.
You did better on your first year than I did 3 years ago.
I had a horrible time.

That's a well-done first-Burn account...and with good photos.

I laud your ability to put the experience into words. I had an amazing first burn in in 2003. So many amazing experiences that I had difficiluty expressing each one adequately, much less put it all into a coherant narrative.

I wonder if he got permission from those participants to sell their pictures on his website. Come to think of it I wonder if he got permission from the ORG to engage in commerce with that link in his signature.

Karlbaba:

Very very well written and excellent photos! THIS is the article I will give my friends and relatives when I try to explain what I've been up to!

Thanks for sharing and screw the negative nelly comments concerning commerce..They're just jealous.

The prices on those prints look as if the photographer is not making money on them. Just my 2 lil cents. :) Absolutely stunning pictures. I hope to follow in your footsteps at my first burn this year! Mmmmm I love me some camera action.
