See the profile for Encebas, He joined 1/19/07 and has posted
only links to 22 porn type video's.
The issue I see here is that these videos require you to download a
"*****.exe " codec for Windows media player. Unknown *.*.exe
files of this type can easly be virus infested.
Thx

TOS violation?
http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... 911#297911
on page 2 we have a user with 8 posts now trying to gerate revenue for an "art car" project. His blog states that revenue will be gereated through outright sales of patches and he wants burners to shop with Amazon using a link so he gets a percentage of the sale from Amazon "kicked back" to him/her. I know from reading on his website that he is affiliated with Apokiliptika so I'm sure someone alreadys OK'd this type of fundraising for them.
My question is.. Where is the line between fundraising and outright commerce and sales? I have read the TOS and interpret that outright sales are verboten. I also see that corporate sponsoship is also bad juju. What makes Amazon.com sales and patch sales exempt? The themecamp involvement? I am just wondering.. personally I am kind of opposed to corporate involvement but I hear that BM is changing and commerialism will be permitted. If this is so please adjust the TOS accordingly and feel free to PM me so I know not to bother with anyone trying to sell shit for Killbucks themecamp. I am not trying to stir up shit (HONEST)! I am just trying to find out where the line is and where the ORG currently stands on this. Thank you in advance.

He did say he was going to take down the patch sales. As for the Amazon thing, well, I don't know. The link isn't on eplaya itself, and while he's talking about his project, that could be streamlined to mention he's raising funds off site, just not how or with what sponsor. Something such as, "I'm doing this project, check out my blog, there's ways to help if you;d be interested." And then if anyone is interested, they could find the Amazon link and explanation there, not here.Toolmaker – Good points. I agree with you that sales of patches probably crosses the line and I will remove that from the blog. Actually, I forgot I had it there. It was in a rough draft of the blog I wrote awhile back and I never removed it.
So many grey areas so many hairs to split. Don't hold your breath waiting for official word; I don't think it exists. BTW, I am not the official word. I have to wing it too. And now Dork gets to wing it also.
A fundraiser section might be nice, but there's huge potential for abuse, just as a classified section would be questionable.
I don't think think the Amazon affiliate link is exempt. Seems like pure commerce to me. The reason his messages haven't been deleted is I don't think he's actually posted an affiliate link. Maybe if you follow one of his blog links you could eventually find it, and if you think that has crossed the link we can talk about removing them. We're kind of shy about deleting posts where it's unclear if the post itself has actually crossed the line. There have been similar discussions in the past completely unrelated to any popular theme camp, like the glow fur coat guy. Once in a while a user gets a bug up his butt about "censorship" as it pertains to their ability to advertise on the board and we need to talk it out.
The ORG has little involvement in this board apart from providing the servers at this point. Moderation is done by volunteers.

Based on Revision MCMXVII of the expectations of "buhrners" on the eplaya, if it's for a group fundraiser that's one thing. If it's for an individual it's another. The fact that it links to Amazon is even more damning IMHO.
There are 256 shades of gray...around here we seem to encounter each and every one of them.

Taking the question from a serious and literal standpoint, here's what Merriam Webster says about the word "group":AntiM wrote:Group vs. individual, yeah, I can see that. But then there's the lovely, how many make a group?
Main Entry: 1group
Pronunciation: 'grüp
Function: noun
Usage: often attributive
Etymology: French groupe, from Italian gruppo, by-form of groppo knot, tangle, of Germanic origin; akin to Old High German kropf craw -- more at CROP
1 : two or more figures forming a complete unit in a composition
2 a : a number of individuals assembled together or having some unifying relationship b : an assemblage of objects regarded as a unit c (1) : a military unit consisting of a headquarters and attached battalions (2) : a unit of the United States Air Force higher than a squadron and lower than a wing
3 a : an assemblage of related organisms -- often used to avoid taxonomic connotations when the kind or degree of relationship is not clearly defined b (1) : two or more atoms joined together or sometimes a single atom forming part of a molecule; especially : FUNCTIONAL GROUP <a> (2) : an assemblage of elements forming one of the vertical columns of the periodic table c : a stratigraphic division comprising rocks deposited during an era
4 : a mathematical set that is closed under a binary associative operation, contains an identity element, and has an inverse for every element
A quick sampling of people around me..I asked them how many people equals a group. It's been unanimous: 3 people. YMMV.

We finally made it home friday, and I go into our local Liquor store to pick up smokes and drinks, and the guy behind the counter trys to tell me what BurningMan is all about...then he says, "Ya you can make good $ out there" aNd I respond, "NO there is no $ exchange out there, only for ice and coffee" and he says, "No No, shmodickhead came in before the burn and bought 6 cases of beer saying he could sell them $2.50 ea at the end of the week"
???? I told him I was gonna bring 6 cases next year, and walk around with a sign saying Why PAY $2.50 when I will GIFT you one??????
I am embarrased that Shmodickhead represents our hometown at BurningMan. Just to let you know, we here are not ALL Furgin SHMUCKS~

"Schmockdickheads"
It is interesting to me that even enlightened folks I know think that "you can make a killing selling xxx at BM". I showed a friend the schwag I was bringing (dog tags I had designed with the man sprouting leaves out of his arms), and she thought that was how I was funding my trip. I tried to explain that I was just giving them away, and she looked at me like I was crazy.
I noticed that Glowfur was selling glow bracelets, part of the profits of which were to go to BRAF.
One of the things I love so dearly about the playa is a week's respite from commerce. It's startling when you reenter the default world with your defenses temporarily down.
What do you all think about the movement to make the man's image part of the public domain?
