Is it possible we saw as rare a phenomenon as we thought when the Euchrion burned?
From the book- The 13th Element
The Sordid Tale of Murder, Fire and Phosphorus
by John Emsley
"Rather ironically, the key factor deciding a burning city's fate is the absence of wind.
The rising heat from the fires has to remain concentrated and, as it starts to rise, it creates the equivalent of a stove-pipe or tall chimney in the atmosphere. The hot air rises up as though in a flue, which in turn sucks in air at ground level directly into the area of the conflagration, thus making the fires burn more fiercely and enabling jets of flame from burning buildings to ignite all around."
Genesis 19:28
Gomorrah...
...behold the smoke of the land went up like the smoke of a furnace.
Firestorm Effect at the Euchrion?

-girl by the fire, watching a tree moved by car bumper in the bonfire
It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.

I would not be surprised.
Most of us will not get a safe opportunity to observe a wildfire up close.
It seems there is a big difference between a firestorm and a fire fed by a strong wind, as bad as that may be.
In Hamburg, the chimney of smoke was reported to be two kilometres wide and five high, while feeding off of an area of thirty kilometres.
The duration and intensity seem to be much worse.
I think the very still conditions when the Euchrion burned allowed us to see something unusual.
Most large city fires do not have this phenomenon occur.
