Lunar Eclipse 28 August 2007 - Plans?
Total eclipse (lunar) on 28 august 2007. This will be a pretty cool event on the playa, All of northern nevada is great for astronomical viewing.
It will last 6 hours so the lights from BRC should dim sum by the wee hours of the morning.
Heres the United States Naval Observatories Lunar website. Punch in Reno, and it will list the duration, start totality and other pertinent data.
Our group plans on celebrating this event with all sorts of festivities.
Does anyone else have any sort of plans?

Ahh, Toolmaker, ya beat me to it!
The eclipse will actually happen very very very early Wednesday morning, like 2:30 - 3:30 AM. So unless you fall asleep, don't worry about missing it, Lifeisshort.

Check out the Eclipse with a Microscope...
I love looking throught my electron microscope at Eclpsi.
Last time was when we had a Lunar Eclipse, when Hayley's Commet passed by around the same spot in the sky. My trusty microscope was there to protect me, both from the spaceship, as well as the harmful smell of that mooncheese...
This was 1996 and my Microscope was just perfect for the matter,
A. It protected my pink eyes from the harsh rays of the moon,
and....
B. Magically by seeing such a small image enlarged, it was like a coreography session of of the Electric Light Orchestra... in live action animation. One could practically see the cells divide.

eclipse times
Remember kids, it is in full eclipse about 2 AM August 28, at BRC. That is very early TUESDAY morning. It will be to the southwest in the constellation Aquarius.

Normally eclipsed moons mean blocked or shadowed energy, but Aquarius is a friendly guy. In essence, he's what makes us live, by bringing water. His benevolent influence should soften the eclipse's darkness.
No surprises that the Shadowed Moon will be welcomed with gatherings in Her Honour!

I just read on the Temple Guardians list that they're planning a glow-in-the-dark Mayan dodgeball game just north of the Temple on Eclipse Night. The "winners" get ritually "sacrificed" to the Moon Goddess!

Hey Diane I was just flipping through a BurningMan 2007 calander and it shows a full moon on the "Burnal Equinox" in March...with a partial eclipse too! How cool is that!!

Yeah!!!!
Coolness. I knew we were getting two eclipses this year but I didn't know when the other one was. It'll probably be raining here, knowing March, but I'll get together another H O W L chorus for that night.
Thanks for the tip!

Lunar Eclipse info and magic
A quote from "goddessmystic.com"
During a lunar eclipse, we experience what might be called a "micro month". The moon is full, then partially or completely hidden, and then visible again. Within just a few minutes, an energy similar to a complete cycle of full, waning, new/black (if it is a total lunar eclipse), waxing and full again. (PaganPath.com)
The lunar eclipse is the symbol of the Crone, also called Hecate, Hel, Mother Hulda, the Snow Queen, Bone Mother, Demeter (when searching for Persephone and the earth's vegetation dies) and Sekhmet. It is significant that the eclipse does not related to the Crone as Lady of Wisdom, who is part of the Crone image with the waning crescent-moon part of the lunar cycle, but focuses on the Lady as Passage. Now is a fine time for Dark magic and Sidhe magic. (Ireland's Own Myths and Magic)
Eclipses generally bring things either into fruition, or to a halt. That particular area of your life will be affected depending on which house of your natal chart the eclipse falls in. (Center for the New Age Newsletter)
The dark red color of the moon has caused many cultures to equate the lunar eclipse with blood and magic. (What Can I See During a Lunar Eclipse?)
Chanting a Mantra just once during a lunar eclipse proves as powerful as chanting the same Mantra a hundred times in ordinary conditions. Great Tantriks and Yogis remain waiting for such moments for they are well aware of their significance. On the other hand the common man being unaware of this significance wastes these moments. The common family man has more problems and worries in his life due to which he remains ever worried. If only he knew, he could make use of these moments and solve all problems of life. Simply put an eclipse is a boon for the common man. (Sadhana on Lunar Eclipse)
Good for relationship magic. Eclipses rapidly bring everyone's emotions to the extreme in order for you to see them and understand them better—that's the shock effect of an eclipse. It is as if an eclipse turns up the volume in your heart so you can really hear the message inside. (Moon Magic)
Eclipses represent special opportunities to heal old patterns and to make major shifts in your life. Fears and feelings are closer to the surface. (Campfire Magic)

I'm working on an event called Blackout. I haven't made any public announcements as of yet, but it will take place at 12 o'clock and trash fence, and start at around midnight on Monday. I am lining up 3-4 musical artists whose body of work conveys a deeper meaning, to nature as a whole and the playa in particular. I envision the music to be uptempo to start, and slowing down as the moon slips into shadow, eventually reaching totality at around 2:35am (early Tuesday morning).

Here's a very slightly updated time schedule from the same site, based on the closest coordinates to the man I could get in the system (presuming we are back at the 2005 alignment on the playa)....
