new folder organization
new folder organization
Welcome back. 26 hours and tens of thousands of threads moved later, I think we're in good shape. I hope this wil make you happier.
Give yourself a while to get oriented, and if you hae trouble finding your fav threads, use the search. Nothing was lost, tho I did trim off a couple of older event announcements that had no replies.
This is a little different from Trey's original outline, as when I got into it at the thread level I realized we needed a couple of changes. I'm especially interested in how well the "Nature" vs. "Experience" division works out.
Your feedback is welcome. Couple of things that are still being worked on:
1) The regionals area is a bit sticky, as the phpbb tool does not seem to allow for sub-sub folders. We had way too-specific categorization before, leaving us with abuot 20 subfolders, several of which were not used at all, most of which had under 20 postings since last July.
I know this is makes browsing by region harder. If we can't find a better solution, and folks want it, we'll pull the Regionals category one step up and reinstitute a smaller division of the globe.
2) There are still older threads that need to be moved, specifically in the Share folder. I've got 2 volunteers who will be helping with this over the next few weeks. Since they are older, they should not greatly impact your experience.
That's it for now. Thanks to Spanky for helping me get this done right on playa time, and for Emily's lightning-quick QA.

!
I don't have much of an opinion about the new folder organization per se, but note: an interesting side effect has been that it has revitalized a number of old threads. i.e. ones that hadn't been active in months have now popped back to the surface and have new responses.
Whatever the cards are labeled, just reshuffling the deck has had an effect.

with the earlier ticket sales, and theme announcement, is it time to add a 2005 section?
(i'd suggest just duplicating the categories from the 2004 section, and leaving the 2004 section for another month or two as transition. however, i also acknowledge that i'm in complete "not being a helper" mode, so feel free to tell me that having a 2004 section forever is a good idea and to just fuck off...)

concurrence with III.
i am looking forward to a blank slate under General Discussion... and to relieve the weight of the albatross (posts/threads) of which i began in 2004.
i don't expect that the black rock city or community sections will change - there's more upset by discontinuing the flow of community (a la previous years) than there is to be gained by ditching the cruft. it may be worth clearing out threads that haven't been hit in a month or three, but the idea behind the new layout was that you'd only update the year specific event section.

2005 folders
i've added the 2005 folders for the theme, tickets and art, camps & activiites.
more to come.
let me know if there are 2005 specific discussions going on anywhere that should be moved.

Might add either "2004" or "2005" to the byline/description for each year-specific folder.

Emily, babe. You rock. thanks for all your hard work!
I'm thinking that maybe the eplaya camp 2005 thread could be moved to the new 2005 folder instead of it's current home in general discussion?
