Open question for the Admins and Moderators of the ePlaya...
Wouldn't you think that, slapping you in the face by posting their porn and spam and virus-links not only all over the board, but to these moderator pages, it would get someone's attention? We're freaking INNUNDATED here...
I mean, seriously... this is pretty damn sad that it's gotten this far...
Why can't something be done here other than ignore the problem, or shove it off on one or 2 people? Really?? The org RUNS off it's volunteer army... there's a lot of people willing to volunteer to help fix this mess... so why the hesitancy do act?

Anti M - dont you already go through and dump this crap all the time? Someones taking it down. I figured putting all of the crap in one spot to approve the first time to see if a poster is legit or not would be applicable.
I wanst talking about every post - just brand new posters for the first one or two posts.
later all

Yeah, having moderated messages would be a pain. The only reason a lot of people set up accounts here is so they can post a question or reply to a topic they care about. Adding a delay would hinder this and cause other issues.
If I had access to the systems (I'd love to volunteer, but all attempts to do so have been ignored and I've given up) I would do the following:
Add the ability for mods to block IP addresses
Put a limit on the number of posts per day for new users
Look at the server logs to figure out how they're getting in - if it appears to be an automated attack, put a barrier in, like one of those gifs with the word in it.
Promote a few more mods.
Time permitting, add some sort of flagging system to alert mods or possibly even delete messages with enough flags.

that mod would stop the automated scripts which are where 90+ percent of the spam is coming from. than a-m would have more time to play. the mod for phpbbs is already on the website.. nobody seems to want it installed here.Dork wrote:put a barrier in, like one of those gifs with the word in it.

I know - I sit here and watch this shit unfold, and am disgusted. Like Dork I volunteered to help out and no one seemed interested. Hell - I'm even a registered volunteer in a slot that requires both a loyalty oath and (theoretically anyway) a security clearance, and have been for, what, this will be the 3rd year now? Hello!! (bang bang bang) Anyone home? You got people willing to help here.pinemom wrote:Ive noticed they hit between 2am and 5am...heheee yes I have hot flashes that wake my ass up! seems most this week ie...the spammers not my hot flashes!!!!!!!
I did some phpBB research, and it really *is* a simple patch to stop 95+% of this shit, if you have access to the board's back end. Plus, somoeone on while the azzoles are polluting this board could shut these fuckbats down, and no one can google "phpBB spam prevention" that has the authority to do so. But, Jeez, if *I* can figure this out, why can't those in charge of this mess.
We're innundated. This board is so bad (yesterday was the start, and judging by what I've seen already today will be worse) that if it were my call I'd drop it, put in the patches, cull all the "0 post" members here over a week and the fucktards (the numbers group) and start over.
But then again - I sure wouldn't be using open source code for this board, either - there are boards out there that don't have these bot and azzole problems. This is a case of Penny wise and Pound foolish, IMO.
Will be on and off tonight. I bet we break 2-300 jamposts by sunrise. At least. We'll see... but I doubt I'm wrong.
Disgruntled and sad about this disaster...

A loyalty oath? Are you serious? To what/who? I'm dying of curiosity here, are you wiling to give more information? What volunteer position requires a loyalty oath, who administers it?Bay Bridge Sue wrote:...interested. Hell - I'm even a registered volunteer in a slot that requires both a loyalty oath and......
Ron, who's been amazed at the lack of a barrier to autospammers around here for years....

Oath? To the Hat, of course.
Curiously, they're not all auto-spammers as seen in "Alfred's" reply to Robotland:

here's an update...
no, spanky is no longer involved with the org. his replacement is still comming up to speed and since the role is comprehensive of handling the technical things with the org, this board is obviously not going to be her top priority. dork has volunteered and has some basic skills and understanding to help with things, but equally important, he's got no community baggage. unfortunately things are that usual slow and gapped progress in getting him on board, but i am hopeful, it looks promising!
everyone, give dork some lovin!
now even though i am transitioning from being an active moderator this is one of the things i would like to help in seeing happen. for additional moderators we have someone who volunteered that i need to follow up with, and someone else who i approached. everyone in the previous list either backed out, are no longer active, or are nuts to think they could ever be considered.

It's nuts to turn down offers of assistance from anyone in the community who cares enough to volunteer or "gift" their services, and such attitudes by people of "authority" make a mockery of the 10 principles. I would like to see such an attitude explained against the principles of radical inclusion, communal effort, and in this case gifting. I'm not intending to stir up a stink here, I simply want to see the mindset changed and if that means using the 10 principles as a means to do so...so be it. Care to explain yourself SB? And in public...not via PM since your post was public?

I have baggage?? Didn't know that! What color? Samsonite? Armenian Tourister? >giggles<spectabillis wrote:... dork has volunteered and has some basic skills and understanding to help with things, but equally important, he's got no community baggage...
Seriously, tho, it sounds (by the lack of "sure you can help, here's what you can do") like I really might, and if I do, I'd like to know what it is.

(PS - To answer the above question, the position I volunteer for requires such an agreement, as do most other jobs in my field. No biggie - you should see some of the ones I have to sign for the Gov't!
bb)
Please keep in mind I've been volunteering for various tech duties a few times a year for the last 4 years. I didn't get a response until a few weeks ago. I still am not sure what their evil plans are for me yet.
Some patience is obviously required.
By the lack of community baggage (obviously personal baggage is not counted, or there's no way I'd be considered) I think he means I haven't pissed off enough people yet. Perhaps being a moderator will change that.
