Not yet. I can only afford to see one movie a month, so I'm haggling between holding out for Pan's Labyrinth and going to see Arthur & the Invisibles.
I read about the movie on another board; the poster got all whingey and P.C. and had about forty-eleven "extreme violence" warnings in bold type about "Children of Men." Now I don't freak out at movie gore and bullets flying so a "yes" wouldn't make much difference to me, but is it really bloody or was she just being a shrinking violet?
I'm just glad that our local cinemas run movies for at least two or three months.

I have heard that there's an unedited, single shot camera scene that's close to 15 continuous minutes that happened in one take.
I'm a big fan of that sort of camera work. The opening shot of Altman's The Player and the more obscure Absolute Beginners being two interesting examples.
I might go see just to see if the shot is as good as some are suggesting.

You'd love "Russian Ark," then. It's a tour through the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg with NO CUTS. One continuous pan throughout the entire movie.
They were trying for a Guinness Book world record, and by the Gods they pulled it off. Brilliant movie. I drove two hours to see it and stood in line for another hour and a half and it was absolutely worth it. Must have been hell for the stage managers, though...

And let's not forget Rope, the Hitchcock Leopold-and-Leob drama.
Hmmm- Hadn't heard that fifteen-minute-take-thing about C of M. I kinda wanted to see it again ANYWAY....
Do'T, there IS some very graphic violence in the film, although nothing that I would judge as OVERTLY gratuitous. Some very intense scenes of urban combat, shot Saving-Private-Ryan-style, and the horrific aftermath of a bombing.

Damn. I was hoping for better from Labyrinth. Hopefully, the Arty Stuff will at least hold up.Steven bradford wrote:If you like horror films, and gore porn, then Pan's Labyrinth is for you. Much more gratuitous and prolonged personal violence than Children of Men. Jampacked with cinematic cliches too.
I have to confess to a secret excitement about "Grind House"....

I loved Pans Labyrinth. It is very artsy, and has no porn and does not play at all like any horror film I've seen. There is suspense and there are horrible things that happen. There is not a lot of violence compared to many Hollywood movies, but what sets it apart from most, is that it is made very real, so that you feel sick, as if you're actually there.Damn. It's probably one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. If you like movies that you have to think about to understand, you may like it, if you like typical Hollywood junk that needs to spell everything out in some catchy phrase so you understand it, then you'll probably not like it.

Coolness. Surprisingly enough, there are no theatres playing it in Eugene (!) but it's playing up in Salem. My horoscope said to put my feet up tomorrow but I think I'll make the drive up and see it.
Hey Unjon, want to go see a weird Spanish film tomorrow?
