FUCK!

Unemployment ruled that I was fired for "misconduct while on probation" and I won't be recieving benefits. I don't recall recieving the letter which was supposed to be informing of the decision, so I am going to have to file a "late appeal"-- which means that they will have to decide whether or not to hear my appeal rather than automatically hearing it. I also have to wait for the duplicate letter to arrive before I can send in the appeal, since I don't have the original for the instructions on how to file.

Meanwhile, I am supposed to continue to file my weekly claims.

FUCK!

I hope that the transfusion solves the problem. Complications like this are something no one needs, to say the least!

Guess what I get to Fucking do -

This year camp theme (voted on by the guys and gals that work here are as follows
1. star wars
2. druids
3. hard core goth
4. togas
5. priests
6. a clockwork orange
7. highlander (kilts - axes, clubs etc...)

As the newest assistant here I am (in addition to scanning and converting 1000s of pages a week into .pdf's, and measuring things) in charge of procurement.

Each day translates into one theme at camp PeeWee. My boss gave me a budget of 15K for 30 people this year for costuming and 5 more k for food and camp. Apparently this is a big honor to arrange as they all talk about this at work incesently This is fucking crazy, these people are crazy. 20 of them left for Darfur yesterday some of them have been there 10 or more times for 4 months a whack.

i get to go in March and will be back in July.

Hey, can you hire me as your assistant? My qualifications are, uh, I have been to Burning Man once, got my stuff together on short notice, and (mostly) survived...!

This year camp theme (voted on by the guys and gals that work here are as follows
1. star wars
2. druids
3. hard core goth
4. togas
5. priests
6. a clockwork orange
7. highlander (kilts - axes, clubs etc...)

Well, I could probably get information on where to find all that stuff in Madison, Wisconsin. Just ask around the role playing game community and SCA. Goths and priests would be basically black outfits, so some could crossover. Actually, there would be some crossover for the whole list. Star Wars has medival looking weapony for at least some of the aliens, as does Highlander (er, but no aliens, unless you count the second movie-- which I don't). I've never seen Clockwork Orange, so no help there. Togas are just sheets (uhm, generally white, not prints). Kilts can be found online (and your co-workers might already have them).

Oh, and

http://www.museumreplicas.com/webstore/Home.aspx

is a place which sells replicas of weaponry. It is also a good place to blow your whole budget. I used to know of others online, but it was a while ago I was intested in that sort of thing.

Food? Well, I have no idea what they expect from that. That depends upon how much cooking people intend to have done out there, and how many meals per day... and how much each person eats (so says the guy who tends to eat an entire pizza in one sitting!)

Anyway, that actually sounds like a lot of (fucking) fun to me. :P

Good luck!

It's actually kinda funny...the salesperson was describing their 7-day no-questions-asked return/exchange policy (and how many fuckin' dealerships do you know who'll do THAT?!), and she said, among other things, "...if another car comes into the dealership you like better..." To which MrKoosh immediately responded, "Yeah, if the purple one comes in."

Druids and star wars and even priests, brown monk robes will do for all. Clockwork Orange? White shirts, white pants, bowler hats and canes, plus combat boots and those lovely white codpieces. I assume you'll have a costumer to stitch up anything you can't buy premade? Highlander, kilts and swords, or even trenchcoats for the modern era. (I have all the movies, all the TV series, several nice swords, and well, I'm a Highlander freak) Goth? well, black and studs. I think your budget will lean heavily on props (light sabers, canes, swords). Wigs and make-up? Or is that overboard? Personally, I think that's too much to conform to while on playabrain! But hey, their camp, I guess they're used to a costume theme regime. We're lucky if we remember we brought costumes.

As for a camp kitchen that large, I'd look for foodie tribes or on tribe.net. Or start a new Help! Kitchen planning thread, or dig up some of the old topics here. I've seen lots of ways to do kitchens, would be nice if you knew what they were expecting. Personally, I'd throw granola bars at them and tell them to fend for themselves. Hey, that's OUR camp!

Fuck, sounds like fun. Or Hell Week. Let us know, heh? Oh, and fuck!

I keep thinking that there should be a whole subsection under Q&A, Tips 'n Tricks that deals specifically with camp kitchens and Playa cuisine. There are enough fuckin' topics on it, might as well have 'em together where they can be accessed.

An update: my brother has Atypical Amyloidosis. No apparent cause, and there's no real treatments, although there are things they can try. He may need a liver transplant eventually. Can't have any of mine, I've had cancer. So he gets to go home and just keep on with his life and keep an eye on it and hope it doesn't kill him early.

So bizarre. Very rare. Fuck.

Fuck!

Tough decision time. I'm going to toss this out here to the eplaya community and the universe in general. I need help making a decision.

Long story short for the past 12 years I've been tied to Sprint, then Sprint Nextel, and then Embarq working in telecom. It's been a good career, one that kept me going through some difficult times and dark days. It's also let me explore technology and cutting edge developments I wouldn't have been exposed to otherwise.

That being said this week the company is offering IT staff a voluntary separation plan. It's simple: 2 weeks of pay for each year of service, $1000 in cash, and you keep all benefits until your time is out.

If I stay...the company is not going in the direction I want to go. It's financials are also getting shaky despite what's being reported to the street. Basically the ship is slowly fucking sinking...and people are already jumping. We lost 6 people last week alone.

If I go...I'm basically stepping out into nothing. I don't have another job in hand. I'm taking a huge risk as my side projects won't sustain all of my personal obligations as they can't ramp up quick enough. But I would also have the time to ramp those up to a level that in 6 months they could be sustainable. Also I'm on 2nd round interviews for two other jobs including one Federal job that could trump anything I've done to date. But it's not a lock and that scares me.

Also the current job is high stress and it's caused a slew of medical troubles, many of which I've splashed across the board and annoyed everyone with.

Sheesh, I want to take the buyout but I admit I'm afraid to jump. I've talked to family but I want some unvarnished advice so I'm going to toss this out here. Suggestions, comments...heck even rude remarks, posted or PM...it's one of the biggest decisions I've had to make. I welcome all suggestions and advice if anyone is willing to offer some.

It sounds like you really fucking want to leave, they are offering additional incentive for you to do so, I say do it. But also keep in mind anything like the medical or retirement, what ever benefits you don’t walk out the door with could be taken away if things get so bad they go bankrupt. but in that case you still might end up with more that you would have if you’d stayed.

I concure...make sure its on contract form. as well as re-read three times any FUCKING small print!

But here in lies the next question, is this pro-posed Bonus upon leaving, have any reference to you cant claim unemployment later down the road against them in a quarter. example: you find a new job, after taking their offer on the 1k dealio. Then the new job doesnt work and your either layed off or fired. so you go to unemployment to file a claim till you get a new job, but because of the previous employer that the quarter you would pull off of, says you signed a contract...blah blah blah...your fucked!

The waiting and worrying is always the hardest part.
I say go ahead and jump.
Take away the pressure and the helpless feeling of waiting for the hammer to drop and move forward in a positive direction.
Put yourself in the drivers seat instead of some corporate twit.
It is said that we should re-invent ourselves every 7 or so years anyway, so it sounds like you might be a few years overdue for an upgrade.
It also sounds like they are offering a good exit package right now.
Don`t be suicidal about it, but if you think you can swing it, I`d say prepare yourself for a change and then take steps to make it a change for the better...

Good Fucking Luck K

I'm not at all certain I am someone to give (fucking) advice about careers, but, here goes:

Get everything in writing, no matter what. At least having the appearance of having better documentation than your employer can only be to your benefit in the long run.

If the company is going under, it is probably better to leave on your own terms than to be forced out at a later date. I'd say run the numbers again and, unless they come up too bad, go for it: take the offer.

Good luck, no matter what you decide!

...and you keep all benefits until your time is out.
This alone could be quite valuable - as suggested earlier, get it all in writing. I've been in telecom since 1999 as a site acquisition and leasing contractor (Sprint, T-Mobile, Cingular and now for a tower company). Uncertainty seems to be the only sure thing. Even direct company employees got the boot with no hesitation when someone at HQ got a bellyache. Having accumulated the years of experience and personal connections, I have not had too much trouble finding new work when the old petered out. Where I haven't been smart is in leaving sinking ships soon enough and under my own terms. You have the knowledge and experience - take advantage of it and start sewing your parachute now. Best of luck.

If the ship is sinking - then by all means use the life raft that is offered you as early as you can before they disappear.

On the other hand stramlined companies are sometimes nicer to work at. I would ask my supervisor's supervisor or anyone in upper management you have tieswith what the scoop is. Maybe there is an acquisition proposal on the table and they need to streamline before it is signed and made public.

You have been there long enough to have some seniority so take that into account.

Lastly - you appear to be real early in this process, which is good. it will give you time ot gather all your ducks in a row either way,

later and good luck

I'd say take it if you strongly think they may be heading down the sink....

My employer has made offers like this before, and if enough people didn't jump, the next step is "You have 30 days to find an opening within the company, or you get laid off"...... It's not usually the better deal.

I appreciate everyone's feedback.
I have elected to take the V-RIF / VSP.

Damn, I'm afraid but I'd much rather control my parachute and where I land so to speak.

Fuck! This is one of the biggest fucking changes I've made in over 13 years. At least I'm going in with ALL of my family and many friends supporting the decision. That being said it still doesn't take the worry out of it.

Anyway now I have to wait for management to approve it and set my final day and off I go.

Again I appreciate the advice / feedback! Thank you!
