i think you're reading between the wrong lines.

btw, some of my best friends (and some of the more interesting burners i know) are christian, including a couple of ministers. perhaps you could find a more targeted or less offensive term to describe what you mean?
Agnostic is the way to go. Christians seem to offend too many these days.

Let me rephrase myself.

Religons have created too much grief in this world.

I should tattoo that on my ass.

Speaking as a Techno Pagan

Post by Angry Butterfly » Tue Nov 25, 2003 9:02 pm

Ok. I'm not a christian, but I respect them. It's kind of like the X Files. I want to belive. A catholic (?) woman that I had never seen before layed her hands on me and prayed for me once when I really needed it. It's along story, but I think she saved my life, that somehow led me to the spiritual place I am in, which ironicly does not include Christ, save for that event.
Yes people have suffered at the hands of so called "Christians" but that does not mean that the concept of cristianity or christians is inherantly wrong, many people do evil in the name of many gods, but it is the people who do the evil that are the problem, not the gods they claim to serve or the religion.
For a while my sig file was "best cult I ever joined" there is more to that than a flippnt remark. In my spiritual searching many years ago now I was involved (briefly) a Christinan "Cult". I was Scared away from it by a misguided and stupid guidance counceler, I really think that the so called "cult" members actualy had more of my intrest at heart than the guidance counceler. I would have left anyway because the views of the so called "Cult" ( it was in fact, just a very enthusiastic church, or it would have not been so easy for me to leave, DUH!) differed from my own. I wish I had chosen to leave on my own and not been scared away, because they were wonderful people, and I think they really could have helped me, even if it was just by eliminating that form of christianity.
I am not non commital enough to call myself agnostic, I do have some specific beliefs and I am still searching, but my point iis, that prayer is powerful, even if only as a meditation and not directed at a "GOD" and I don't think we should judge people harshly or slur them because they belive in Christ as their savior., anymore than we should do it do someone who is Jewish Hindu, TechnoPagan or what have you.
I took the road less traveled, and now I would like to go back and find the paved one.

I happen to like Bob, however when he resorted to quoting scripture I felt compelled to respond. The term Christ-O-Holic is one that Badger has used on this very board in the past and I have adopted the term to mean basically anyone who believes in Christianity but takes it one step further and publically says so, such as quoting scripture. Granted it's a very wide brush to use, it could be considered a streotype. But it's my personal one and after assigning said label I then sit back and observe what this person does. Some Christ-O-Holics want to force their religion on the world and deserve to be watched so they don't step on my rights. Others are just there taking up space or quietly living their lives and they make statements from time to time. I could go on and on but Bob's scripture quote touched a nerve and it shocked me as it's a side of him I've never seen. He comes across as a typical engineer type, very serious, sometimes a little gruff. This post kinda blew away my mental impression of him.

So to me, it's no harm, no foul. Again I happen to like Bob and beyond this post I don't see the need to turn this into the issue of the day. Thank you for your understanding. As the saying goes, there's nothing to see here, please move along. Your holding up the line!

Can't someone quote a piece of scripture from the bible, quran, or other source without being a member of that faith though?

I think I understand what you mean by "Christ-O-Holics" but I did'nt quite get that about Bob.

I could be wrong but he seems to be just a very astute guy that is very well read and maybe was raised by Christ-O-Holics.

You can after all know Theology and still be Agonostic. In fact that may very well be a reason for being Agonostic.

There's been some good counterpoints raised here since I made my post. I'll honestly step back and rethink my attitude a bit.

The scripture quoting just hit me the wrong way. For that I can't apologize because it would be lying to say otherwise. It reminded me of Fred Phelps and the God Hates Fags protesters who routinely wave around large picket signs quoting scripture against something they don't care for. His protests have been on my mind lately, then when I saw that post I reacted. Me bad, I screwed up.

Sometimes free association and an open keyboard / open mouth can get you more attention than you wanted.

I'm going to clarify something.

So as I said I'm sorry for posting on your thread but not for what I posted in it. I was within thread theme. (Do you remember the theme?)

Although it made several upset, it was still funny and my point was made. And made very clear. It was a public post taken from a public post. (well was at the time.) Slanderous as it was, it was not written by me. I saw no diffrence between where I found the post as where the ucsd newsletter was found. In the public domain.
Not a very smart move for those that thought it was a good idea.

Anyhoo,
I really dont care what anybody says about me. I am very secure about myself. Bad spelling and all.

Thread drift over.

Nuff SED. Hey, I think I shall have that tattooed on my other cheek.

15 tattoos later..... and some damn fine "fine line" work... I wouldnt offer my flesh to anyone with an attitude of "Lets make a tracing and color between the lines" we call them "scratchers" where I live and we avoid them like a plague.....

Hi gang its me the Hack,

My intent was genuine and I guess that was lost in all the snot that came back flyin in my face.If you only get one thing out of this post( ARE YOU LISTENING?) I hope that you all understand that I agree with alot of what was said about what one should consider before getting a tattoo.Im supprised that Some of you are so closed minded and uptight that you have so little faith in the average person that went to burningman and would consider getting a tattoo.
Some of you jumped my shit before even reading the back part of the thread...( like ummm Badger maybe,of whom I am suprised at because after numerous talks with you in real life about such types of subjects ie closed mindedness and intent).....I thought that the whole Burning thing also included something about merry lil pranks and sillyness.Scuze me if you dont agree with what you think you are reading.By trade I am an actor..and the minute you all got blood thirsty about my lack of ethics or talent..possibley because I seemingly portrayed (ooooo portrayed , an acting term...) tattooing as not so incredibly reverant or betrayed the great law of tattoo world by calling it simple....I got my ass chewed. Was I going against the popular opinion...yup!
Was I serious? ..........maybe if you wiped the pie outta yer eyes youd look at the subtext and see the shift, its called a beat change.
Sorry if Im not in yer "in" club.
I want to say that I received alot of mail from people who Can think for them selves with out some one else doin it for them. Thank you Angry Butterfly, and the rest of you. Im happy to show you what I can do.

I wouldnt want to tattoo anybody that didnt want one so all you heavy, and negative people who sseemed hell bent on tellin me off let me say this..
You dont have to get a tattoo by me
Im not gonna defend my experiance or my talent to you cuz youve been played .
I dont give a shit......You all draw ( or TRACE) conclusions without asking questions, you talk about me like you think you know what Im about . I was about doin somethin nice.It was worth it , the offer still stands.get one dont get one......

Altho I didnt think about it at the time, My playin into the hype cost me..You guys need to know that I felt horrible that evening, that the feelings vomited all over me from the post wrecked my evening, caused me to question what burningman REALLY meant and my husband didnt get a ride out of me at the train station that night, he took the bus home after three weeks to find his wife home, sniveling and burning dinner.I suddenly didnt have the confidence to mail off my resume for this job I would kill for. Negitivity has tenticles my friends. If you only get one thing outta this post I hope its this..LIGHTEN THE FUCK UP!!!

Now Im going back to my tracing and m'crayons and kooool drugz ..
yoo guyz are meeeniez.........(remember children... subtext..)

Oh by the way..Badger,
Llyle is spelled with two Ls...I wouldnt get a tattoo from him either, but then hes not in the biz anymore anyway. He still is a tattoo God and a nice person...his style isnt my bag..I studied under Erno.He is a genious and so fucking incredibly talented. Hes a close and personal friend of mine and he is a tyrant about sterile work spaces and tools. He set the standard for almost anything that goes on today tattoo wise.He is another Tattoo God.He met with tradgedy and with a little support and some nagging from someone considered a danger to the e-playa tattoo community is back in action.I sleep easily at night knowing that ,in fact I consider that one of my great healing jobs of all time.
Tattoo artists are shamens.

Bright Blessings you bunch of intense defenders of the fold.and all the rest of ya.

Anybody seen my ONIONS?
And by the way,How dare I talk that way to Ivy?!!?
Pllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaazzzzzzze! Why not?

Alchemy, I'm wondering if I'm off the mark in calling you thin-skinned as far as my remarks regarding Lllyllle Tuttllllle. As far's I know my only comments in this thread are to be found in a single post and were in response to my personal opinions (and those expressed to me me first hand) of someone whose artistic talent remains somewhat marginal - especially when scrutinized in the light of many contemporary tat artists currently working.
