Of Boy, I'll bet The Professor now wishes he had never brought up this question. I really love reading the threads on this discussion board, you never know where they will lead or end up.
Like you Wedeliver I also dream of a day when the fuckin authorities spend more time on violate crimes and those piece of shit child molesters vice a bunch of people in the middle of a God Damm desert smoking mother nature (the green woman??). I got no need for those fuckin judges or the police. Fuck'em all in the ass the bastards.
Just my opinion.

Some of my best friends are either retired or active LEO's. The one's I know and love took the job because they wanted to make a difference and they really truly care about others. I suppose a few might like a good spanking if you are offering!

wedeliver - my comment about jumping out of the bushes was in response to Dork suggesting that cops and lawyers do such - it was SARCASM.
I spend a good portion of every work day in defense of those who have run afoul of our drug laws and law enforcement. Some of that defense is pro bono. So, no, my comments are not from an attitude of fear. I have been around a long time and grew up in the 60's in California. I know my way around the block.
My position is simply this - blatant, flagrant advertisement of drug use, actual or intended, at Burning Man on this forum is ill advised for several reasons. Not the least of those reasons is that over the years I have noticed an increase in law enforcement presence on the playa, with particular increase in plainclothes narcs.
Another reason is that I would prefer to limit the ammunition that the detractors of Burning Man have to use against it.

Teo - no, I am not concerned that anyone will be tracked down as a result of their posts on e-playa. My concern is that the more the event is perceived to be a giant drug free-for-all, the more money, time and energy are expended by all the various policing agencies in catching drug offenses rather than the "protect and serve" attitude that we need.
I am proud to live in a community where I was able to help get a measure passed in the recent election that mandates the local police to de-prioritize marijuana offenses. I personally believe in de-criminalization of drug and prostitution crimes.
I think I've said my piece here. I also believe in your right to say pretty much whatever you please. Decide for yourself if you are the buzzkill guy at the party that ran his mouth and invited the narc.

I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.
You can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug, especially when its waving a razor sharp hunting knife in your eye.
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
No man is so foolish but he may sometimes give another good counsel, and no man so wise that he may not easily err if he takes no other counsel than his own. He that is taught only by himself has a fool for a master.
Freedom is something that dies unless it's used.
I think all of the above H.S. Thompson quotes express me the best in this situation.
Mojo, badger Unjonharley et all. I hope you agree that this discussion is necessary and healthy. I hope you find a smile or two here and for fun try and have fun....

I find it intriuging & disturbing that in my home state, delivery of marijuana is a class A felony while choking, beating etc. your spouse is a class C felony.
Makes me wonder where priorities lie.

All right-- I confess: I use drugs. Prozac and Claritin. I'm a junky, I guess...

Anyway going back to an earlier point about LE's presence on the boards BR Lover was LE, if I recall correctly. The eplaya does have some LE visibility and with a little digging that I'm not inclined to do right now I know there are posts that can back that up.
Pulling out the soapbox I feel the drug war has failed and that our prisons are being filled up unnecessarily because of it. Save the prison space for more worthy targets like anyone convicted of indecent liberties with a child. That's the kind of scum I want to see locked up, not somebody raising 20 pot plants that sold a dime bag to someone seeking medical relief.

"BR Lover" comes to mind...a quick author search for that ID should pull up some interesting exchanges between himself and other possible LE eplayans. I'm thinking it was about 2 years ago when he was active. As for recently I have no idea....but if there's one there's likely more.helitack wrote:Are you saying that some people that post here wear badges?

Wow guys I certainly didn't know where this question was going to go.
Honesty time: I am a drug user. As a personal choice I think that my responsible personal use doesn't hurt anyone. However all of your insightful thoughts on this matter have made me NOT WANT to use at the BM. When i break the law by myself in my own house, I am really the only one i hurt; i'm just another statistic. But at the BM I will be part of a community that means a lot, to a lot of people.
For the sake of the experience and the event itself I recommend to everyone to not use illegal drugs.
For those of you in California, who have a card and want to toke... let me know. Then its only illegal federally but not in the state. (Hmmm... makes you think)

I couldn't agree more. I used to have mixed feelings about legality of certai drugs, mainly the hard shit I never really got into until seeing Penn and Teller tackle the subject on Bullshit. Now I feel that ALL prohibition does is increase the worst aspects of drug abuse. Personally I don't do anything hard anymore but I never was much of a drinker so I wound up smoking the ganja from time to time for many years. As I get older I use substances less and less. Now that I am in my early 30s I don't even keep any pot at home anymore, 10 years ago I always had a bag of grass about. I don't know why trolls keep looking for drugs at BM since an awful lot of participants don't do ANY drugs at all. I honestly don't understand why some people think that EVERY burner MUST be on something. Granted there are alot of people drinking booze but 99.5 percent of em are 21 or older. As far as the etards go BM wasn't originally a rave and the only reason they are about is because of radical inclusion. Personally I don't care how many rolls they take, I never saw a raver beat the shit out of someone like the drunks do to each other in bars. I can't count how much violence I have witnessed from "legal" drugs like booze. I say let the ravers be etarded, let the hippies take the shrooms, and let the potheads get stoned. As long as nobody gets hurt and everyone gets along who gives a fuck if someone is on something or not. If the ORG wasn't forced to pay LEs would they even make a profit on drug citations? While they are busy trolling BM I wonder how many girls get raped in bars, fights in bar parking lots, and kids getting grabbed off the streets. We have much more importnat thing to worry about than to work at keep constitutional rights supressed.Archantael wrote:Pulling out the soapbox I feel the drug war has failed and that our prisons are being filled up unnecessarily because of it. So what you are saying is that some of us might wear uniforms and badges at work? And work for the Federal government? In a land management capacity? People who had to say, " I, ___________, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God'' when they started work. Holy shit that's fuckin scary that there are people like that on this board...Archantael wrote:Heli, I never could figure out what agency he worked for. Wedeliver,
Please excuse my comments from earlier today, I surely did not mean to offend you or any of your friends. In hind sight I was a little abrasive, no a lot of abrasive, in my comments. This is a sore subject with me and I responded inappropriately. Let’s just leave it at that for now or I will just get spun up again. I hope we can still get together for that birthday drink. As far when, I plan on arriving early Monday. As far as where, this is my first burn and I really don’t know about where.

Heli, I know exactly what / who you are referring to but out of showing respect for someone's privacy I decided to just skip past bringing it up...I figure if that person wants to say something they will....to me it's all about being respectful.helitack wrote:So what you are saying is that some of us might wear uniforms and badges at work? yo Mojo: wasn't aiming directly at you, just the tenor of some of the posts in general and I certainly meant no offense. I too am a lawyer and I spend a LOT of time trying to dispel the image that Burning Man is nothing more than a giant drug-fuelled orgy. This seems to be the impression most of the narrow-minded chumps have, and I go on and on emphasizing the art and the gifting aspects of the event. So, no, I will never be the buzzkill guy who ran his mouth off and invited the narc. Im the guy who is showing photos of the Belgian Waffle, the Big Round Cubitron, the Nerverwashaul and urging my fellow misfits to join me on the playa to create a more civil alternative to Defaultia.mojo wrote: My concern is that the more the event is perceived to be a giant drug free-for-all, the more money, time and energy are expended by all the various policing agencies in catching drug offenses rather than the "protect and serve" attitude that we need.
Decide for yourself if you are the buzzkill guy at the party that ran his mouth and invited the narc.
But, you DO have a point about rampant drug braggadocio, if it were to occur, even in this minor backwater of public discourse but for different reasons perhaps. It's the ill-informed Yahoos who come for the apocryphal free drugs-n-sex orgies and the Critical Tits parade that stand a better chance of ruining BM in the long-run. If the message to the public is skewed toward the "lewd" our population may, over time, become a spring break-type event for the frat boy crowd.
So far, what I've seen on the e-playa is largely discussions of the responsible use of drink and drug on the playa. Also, I personally dont think sex and drugs are "lewd" but more of a component of expression and experience and an escape from the confines of a less than ideal society.
