>You wake up and find that you are in a small boat gently floating down a wide river. The river runs past a large statue and disappears in the mist on the horizon. You can hear a low distant roar.

Look_

>(in bottom of boat) There is a thin ragged cloak here, an old short sword with a dull blade, a bent copper shield. There is a bag with something unidentifiable that might be food in it.
The boat spins a little as it floats down the river. The roar is getting louder.

Look at statue._

>Are you sure you want to do that?

Yes_

>OK that's good. What do you want to do?

Look at statue_

>This is the naughty version of the game you know. There might be some naughty words involved. Are you sure?
The roar is getting louder.

look at statue!_

>The word "statue!" is not recognized.
The boat gently spins. The roaring is much louder now.

look at the statue._

>Do you have permission from your mother?

Look at the statue._

>Ok ok. You might want to cover your ears now. The word is "Breasts". There we said it. Are you happy now?
You see a giant statue of an ancient goddess with large breasts. As you gaze longingly at the beautiful statue your boat goes over a giant waterfall.

Jump out of the boat._

>You are already out of the boat.

dive.

>you can't do that.

Swim_

>You can't do that.

look_

>Stop talking you're dead.

Your score is 12 out of a possible 455. would you like to play again?

Has anyone found my detangling brush? I coulda swore I left it here somewhere! All this damn fur is a pain in the ass to keep up!

Ahh, I found it! I'll quit posting and get back to playing Flight Simulator since I look halfway presentable again! Now if I can only get that pesky rudder pedal controller to work right I'll be set.

Note to Self: Finally write down that half-completed BRC version of the Eagles' "In The City" you've had rolling around your brain for two years now.

At least there won't be any reason to sing Slow Elevators out there. :D

(I'm actually going to a filk convention this weekend....)

Rocket Propelled Grenade launcher?
That doesn't sound TOO geeky.

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.

I can see the case being made for Heinlein fans being looked down upon because they project an aura of superiority (disclaimer: I read Friday an average of once every six weeks for a period of about 15 years, so I'm biting my own tail here). Somewhat akin, IME, to the nonzero group of polyamorous folks who consider themselves to be "more highly evolved" because they've "discovered" ethical non-monogamy - and yes, those two sets overlap (see the real-life Church of All Worlds as a prime example).

Now, how far did I just drop on the scale by coming up with this explanation?

You forgot my favorite...

>: Wait

Time passes...

>: Wait

More time passes...

Running on cp/M. Dual 5 1/4" floppys - one for the game, one for the OS on a Kaypro 4. (Still have that anchor, methinks...). It was an upgrade from my old HP 86/87 stand alone workstation running HP basic, where, unless you were mainframed into a 3000 you had to write your own (you still did, but...). Or do without. Was able to score the 5 1/4"s for that one too - it was an upgrade from the 12" floppy. Chewed a disc every 10 uses...

What if you were a computer gamer at 13 - and had to write your own games, because the technology wasn't there yet? Worse, interfaced your Sinclair to your Commodore 16 to get better performance - via hardwiring?

I must have been doomed early! I counted 16, and 17 if you include H.B.P.'s Fuzzies as Furries. 17??!!??!! Oh S#!T!!!>giggles<

Now returning to my H. Beam Piper novel... (Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen)... read so often the pages are falling out of one copy...

Reminds me of a cartoon I saw at ibm.
It said
'How's your response time?' on the screen.

There was a skeleton draped onto the monitor with a cobweb.

I tried out their user friendly protocol.
You just sat down and responded to the screen.

I just got into a big companies website that I couldn't use without calling the company for information.
Again.
Why are there still badly designed websites for billion dollar companies?
Internet will kick ass if it ever works.
I tried to search the web for the TBS phone number.
Apparently this is too much for search engines.
And for their crappy website.

That easy to use IBM software?
Written in the 70s.
If they had stuck with it, there would be no windows.
Maybe apple would be here.

Are there no web designers out there?
I've seen websites that work.
There is no excuse.

102 IF A$=N, THEN 190 ELSE 1270

Those were the days... not just monochrome, but dark screen, flourescent green type. Fonts? We don' need no steenkin' fonts!
