Is the bar going to have access for those who get around on scooters and such by necessity?

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.

I trust these guys. But you're the one on the Scooter. If there are non-obvious things that would enhance accesisbility, let them know ahead of time--so they can plan off playa.gyre wrote:Is the bar going to have access for those who get around on scooters and such by necessity?

Oh, don't mind me. Prettty much my boilerplate for the situation. Just trying to remind the disabled that they are the experts on thier own needs.pinemom wrote:Actaully, The entrance to the B(O)(O)BY Domes was already discussed, we were probly thinking of the "intoxicated" at the time, but plan to build something to go over the conduit in the door way.

hince we were thinking the "Intoxicated" as their not as good at radical self reliance!
Most of my friends who fall under that"handicapped" which they hate, almost get offended if ya go out of your way to help...especially Vernon, man he's the worst, everytime I help him to the bathroom and turn on the light.....hahahahaha (he's Blind)

Welcome Home!
Our newest B(O)(O)BY BAR CAMP MEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
nice.
Names pinemom, but my friends call me "Piney".
I'm not limited to a wheelchair or scooter myself.
I just wanted to remind you how many people out there are.
I signed in at least 40 or 50 myself at the dmv that are very limited.
I don't know how many use transport and can get out to go inside with more or less difficulty.
I have to minimize further damage to my knee myself.
I still ended up walking enough to have blisters when I got home.
But in 2005, I did a lot of damage and I was in pain for most of the year.
And that was with restricted travel as it was.
This year I was able to do much more and I have had no extra problems.
I would never have tried to work the gate without transport, for instance.
How a bar is configured is no problem for me, but there are enough people that have to skip the more difficult ones.
I have only gone into this detail because there are always more hidden disabilities than visible anywhere you go.
If anyone can give any help to Hot Wheelz camp they do an amazing job helping people in wheelchairs out here.
Most of their party time goes to doing what they can.
They can always use more equipment- expensive...hint...hint.
I wish now I had come out the year I missed due to surgery.
They told me I'd be fine in time.
Well, I could drive with no problem, amazingly.
However, when it came time to walk...very painful.
I would have been limited, but I wish I had come now.
If a bar can be configured so people can drive up to at least part of it in wheelchairs, it would be a nice thing.

""Alter-abled"" is the word..
I can still peddle my trike..But walking a block is a bitch..I have built a couple alter-able rides..I'm not so proud not ask for help or grab it if needed..Damn near pantsed my kid one time..I started to fall and grabed the seam of his jeans..I weigh 225..In my drinking days I would crawl to get the next beer..Had a crippled friend, We would carry him when we went bar hopping..See you on the playa..

I'm reminded suddenly of quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan - unapologetic, scathingly funny man. He did an animated piece a few years ago that showed up at Spike & Mike's Festival, called "I Think I Was An Alcoholic," that memorably featured his pre-accident self being chased by a toilet....unjonharley wrote:In my drinking days I would crawl to get the next beer..Had a crippled friend, We would carry him when we went bar hopping..

Time to stop if you have to hold on to the playa to keep from falling off.
