Bucky has plans! His outfit gets a flamethrower makeover this week.

Anyone have garden gnomes they're willing to sacrifice?

I ave acquired a model dog skeleton, and he needs a name. My brother suggested Scraps, which I like (perfect vintage name), another choice is Scorchy. Any variation of Sparks is too easy. So, any suggestions for a charred dog skeleton name? Other than Bones?

Hehe, snort, I hadn't thought of that ... probably 'cause that's RG'S dog's name. On the list, thanks ...

After some discussion here at base, "Ground Zero" sounds pretty good.

Right now Zero is biting Bucky's knee. RG rearranges my skeletons everytime he's here.

Five Minutes After went off beautifully. The dog finally landed the name Scraps. I didn't take a single picture; RG has some, but I was wondering if anyone else crossed paths with Bucky and family?

We're cleaning Bucky up a bit and sending him out in the passenger seat of Larry's semi for October. Heh.

Does he have his CDL current? (I mean Bucky, not Larry)

Well, perhaps they wouldn't be so keen if they saw a closeup of the pink boys' flame-thrower makeover.

Isn't that top a little, uhm, redundant on Bucky?!

Hey, is he still one of your cat's favorite resting places? (I like the pictures of your cat snuggling with Bucky!)

Off topic: I was toying with the idea of applying at Schneider National Inc. for one of the entry level truck driving jobs they were advertising locally, but it looks like I might get work elsewhere. (I'm not really too certain me and an 18 wheeler would be a good combination, at least not on any sort of full time basis.... :? )

Both cats like to sit next to Bucky now, but only because the arm of his chair overlooks the hamster cage!

Schneider, huh? Hey, trucking pays the bills in this house, but no, it isn't a great fit for everyone. Still, if you hung in long enough to get a CDL, there's always work of some kind.

Schneider has an ad up on Job Net for 25 openings for "Entry level Truck Driver"(sic). They list virtually ALL of the counties in Wisconsin (as far as I can tell) and several other states as work sites. $35,500 Per Year to $43,500 Per Year as pay, 40 to 70 hours per week. out 2 weeks, home 2 days, out 2 weeks, home 2 days (sic) is what is under Shift/Work Days.

The manuevering (sp?) I've seen some truck drivers do to get up to a loading dock kind of worries me, plus I don't know about handling something that big for long periods of time on a regular basis-- I'm kind of afraid my mind would wander and I'd take out some poor soul in a compact car...!

Dunno. Have to see how the "temp to hire" jobs go, and if Culligan calls me back about an interview for their water and water softener pellets delivery job (and, if they do and I go out on the orientation route, if I can handle it!)

Poor hamsters! Having a pair of predators staring into their cage all day!

One guy I knew had a cat with the worst luck. Not only did she fall asleep on a second floor railing, and roll over in her sleep, waking up halfway to the floor, but she had a bad encounter with his hedgehog. Both cats were fascinated by the "strange animal in the cage", but Ditto was the one to take the initiative one day when Jason was cleaning the cage. She saw the door was open, so hopped into the cage to get a closer look at the hedgehog. The hedgehog, having its space invaded and nowhere to run, poked out its spines and charged the (much larger) cat! Poor Ditto got a nose full of spikes and couldn't get out of the cage fast enough! To add insult to injury, the other cat, Barley, took to lying on the hedgehog's cage after them, seemingly to mock Ditto.

(Poor Ditto never did catch a break. Apparently that side of Madison has a problem with mineral build up in the gas lines, which resulted in the pilot light in the water heater in Jason's house going out. The leak wasn't detected until his son came home and found Ditto dead from the gas. Luckily for Jason, his dog had figured out what was wrong and, when Jason went into the basement to examine the water heater, his dog made certain Jason stayed concious (sp?) until he got back upstairs.)

whew. That went longer than I expected!

30k+ is about right for OTR truckers. Two out, two in, that's normal, although three and three or even four and four are more workable for the dispatchers. That's why I like larry's current flatbed gig, same company, salary (more than 30k you betcha), and he's home every week. Downside is he's trashing his clothes, but he is bulking up from slinging 50 pound chains. Refrigerated drivers don't touch the load most of the time, which is nice, you get comchecks to pay the lumpers.

Schneider does do the lower 48, so it would be long hours on the road. You'd see a lot of the country from the interstates. I think you can drive 11 out of 14, then rest for ten. Don't quote me though.

My brother drives bus because his trainer with Swift never let him back the rig up. He failed the driving test. Negotiated payment for his CDL training with Swift and got off cheap. larry had his paid for by workforce services, which was perfect, because that three week school runs $5k on your own. Oh yeah, I've seen him do some pretty fancy maneuvers to get into a dock. Amazing what he can do with 75 feet!

Last October, he took Bucky out on the road with him, buckled in shotgun. Wish I'd gotten a picture!

 Now you are making me feel inadequate! :P

OH! Wait-- you said NOT to quote you! oops! :P (Actually, that is something I *should* know from working at the DMV. At least I think it was mentioned.)

Schneider apparently does their own training, and pays if you stay with them for 12 months. (Now I am curious who in the DMV went to Schneider's Training Academy to evaluate it. I'll probably never know. Oh well.)

Aw, heck. I probably should be getting to bed so I will be awake for the orientation in the morning. (I think I might have impressed the person at the temp agency when I mentioned that there were two common ways of molding plastic: thermoforming and injection molding. I *think* Placon does primarily thermoforming, which is what I asked her.)

Oh well. Good night! :D

12 months? That's short. Both Swift and Central Refrigerate require a 24 month payback deal, pretty standard.

btw, Swift stands for Sure Wish I was a Fucking Trucker. Or, Sure Wish I had a Faster Truck.

We'll see how I am feeling by this time next week. (I'm getting pretty close to the end of my savings, and Adecco didn't select me in the first round of people to go work at the plastics plant. ['course, after a few weeks of 12 hours shifts, spending my weeks sleeping in strange locations out on the road might not sound so bad after all..., and I might be more alert more of the time as well.... Hmm. Maybe I should reconsider! :? )

Aw, great. Now I am all confused! (Need to unpack my tarot cards and see what they say....)

Tell Bucky "Hi!" for me! I actually came across the Five Minutes After display last year. It was only after returning that I came across this thread, which made me sorry I hadn't paid more attention while out there.... (It must have been late in the week, when I was so out of it that I didn't know how out of it I was-- if that makes any sense!)

Well, I have got to go and poke through my stuff in the basement to keep my dad happy. (HEY! I just thought of another advantage to driving a truck! )

TTYL,
