Shamanism on the Playa

Post by somewilliepete » Mon Mar 19, 2007 10:43 pm

Is there any Shaman camps on the Playa that I can join where I can offer help and services? Is there any rules against Shaman "brews" and giving them away to participants?

Not sure of any shaman camps but we're around. I've seen a number of shamanistic things going on in the book every year including Ayahuasca ceremonies. However the same rules apply to any schedaled substance and DMT the active tryptamine of Ayahuasca is a Schedual 1 substance so it's illegal officially speaking. As with mushrooms, ibogaine, ect. Peyote however is legal for use within the native american church....if your a member.

Its not somthing I wouldn't advertise much, but then I don't want to deal with the LEO's.

Shamanism on the Playa

I am aware that all of the active chemicals in themselves are illegal, but the vines and seeds etc. on their own are not. Other entheogens like Salvia Divinorum are not illegal. I can guide (handle without hassle) no more than 3 people spiritually, but it would be great to find a person who also can help with larger groups of people who want healing experiences or anything else.

I've always been a loner when it comes to practicing. I'm sure there are those out there though that would be more than willing to hook up with you while out there.

Salvia divinorum is still quite legal as is Piper methysticum, Pausinystalia yohimbe, Echinopsis pachanoi, and Mitragyna speciosa. I occasionally smoke mugwort which contains thujone and find it calms me down nicely when I am stressed out.

The last time I checked they were all still legal. A little disclaimer.. I am not a lawyer and any advice from me concerning legal matter should be ignored in favor of advice from an attorney.

There is also the thing...

What you do to yourself and for yourself may be viewed by others (such as LE) QUITE differently than what you do to and for others.

If you decide to do this thing, I recommend you have enough documentation to make the local fuzz and the org very quite OK with with what you're doing. I know (judging from former comments here) some will say "Fuck that, do whatever you want and fuck the consequences" but remember, it's you, not they, is the one who will pay those consequences if they come to be.

If they're funky about giving minors booze (which they are) and are undercover looking for dope smokers (they *really* are) guaranteed they will be watching you until (a) they KNOW you're ok, or (b) they bust you for some percieved violation. Remember - this IS rural Nevada, which is kind of like rural Nebraska on a bad day in some places... you are NOT in Berkeley or SF or wherever... Think Officer Opie and Starkville, Mississippi, and the heart of red state country and, well, you get the idea.

Even if you later prove you were within your rights, it can still fuck up your burn. And even as recently as 10 years ago blatant discrimination against Native Americans was still commonplace there.

I've always believed in the credo "Cover the ass which bears thine own".

It's true.

Okay, so "shamanism" is the new code for tripping?

I thought "shamanism" meant dressing up in fur costumes and dry humping.

The word sapience is derived the Latin word for wisdom, sapientiae or sapientia. These are related to the verb sapere, which means 'to taste'.

I'm with you on the poseur thing, but from context there seems to be something more than personal snot points at issue.

Always is. Condesned version of funny story...

2 years ago. I worked as a dispatcher for Emergency Services. We share our radio trailer with Law Enforcement. One day I was on shift, and met one of their Undercovers there doing paperwork on a bust (him, not me!!!!) and gifted him a coca-cola. (Hey, it's burning man...)

2 days later, I'm in my street garb, not my ESD yellows. (We wear yellow shirts so we stand out, like the Rangers wear Khaki for the same reason). VERY same cop walks up, asks if I know where he can score some smoke. Thought he was pulling my leg, but realized he didn't recognize me and was serious. Told him I knew of a stash of coke... (Eyes really perked up...) ...back in the fridge of the Radio Trailer, both Diet and Regular. Then it hit him.

Didn't see him after that - I think he was kind of embarassed... 8)

Rule #1 - Be smart. DON'T do drugs (if you are so inclined), esp. the fine aeromatic burning substance, in public or in an open tent. If you decide to use, BE DISCRETE!

Rule #2 - If someone comes up asking where to score (or offers to trade his stash for yours) politely decline, as in "I NEVER do that stuff". 9 times out of 10 it's someone who has a pretty Star and chrome bracelets requiring a key... I'm not saying be psycho paranoid, but use common sense, OK?

Rule #3 - Trust only your own stash. People get "dosed" out there, don't trust that that doobie or open brewski handed to you isn't laced with something else. I'm kind of anal about it, but tend to take the "Mad-Eye Mooney" approach - If I don't know where it came from, I'll usually pass. I've had friends dosed out there, and if they don't know it it can be a bad trip.

Just be aware, OK? Hate seeing people get busted for silly stuff that should've been avoided...

Hugz,
bb

Paranoia in this instance is appropriate. I've NEVER had someone ask me this question that I wasn't able to determine immediately was a law enforcement person.

Beware the undercover art cars too.

When they ask for drugs, tag them quick.

(Well, since this thread has drifted out past Trego somewhere near the Cyanide plant...)

Oooh, this is ROTTEN...

Get a bunch of cheap, hard to remove bumper stickers, oversize, easy to read at a distance.

Wording:

WARNING - UNDERCOVER COP CAR.

When one is discovered, slap one of these hard to remove babies on there. If ya see a car already marked, slap another on, so the offending vehicle is plastered.

And easily identifiable. From all angles.

Hmmm... prolly get in trouble for this revolutionary exercise of free speech... Darn...

Don't forget. shamans are the ones who tell us AIDS in gay men results from drug abuse and <b> repeated exposure to semen</B>. Oh wait. That was a medical physicist in Australia.

Honestly, who had the idea that it's from semen exposure? By that reasoning, 90% of the population should have AIDS.

My mom told me the "sex with monkeys" explanation when I was little, too. And she's a clinical laboratory scientist. . .
