Some post said it weighs 26 lbs, but who cares at Burning Man? You're not actually going to be lugging it around that much. It's worth it to get to see Reno 911 on the playa!

TV sets are evil hypnotists. Two years ago I went home for Christmas, my folks begged me to go to church with them. Main service was nice, usual seasonal hymns and all, for Sunday School they wheeled in a TV and put on a church educational video...everyone was staring at it like it was God. I smiled and walked out.
Camp behind us had a big RV pull in late in the week, big satellite dish propped up on top, half built shade pole thing out front...never did see anybody doing much outside, surely surely they weren't just indoors watching TV???

Perhaps it was The Dicky Winnebago, the sequel to The Dicky Box...Tiahaar wrote:Camp behind us had a big RV pull in late in the week, big satellite dish propped up on top, half built shade pole thing out front...never did see anybody doing much outside, surely surely they weren't just indoors watching TV???

I've never understood tv on the playa...
You can watch the idiot box the other 358 days out of the year. The stuff on the playa happens only out there. Why invest the time & effort of going to BRC to sit and spectate something you can do at home?

I don't care what the borg says: feather-wearers will NOT be served in Rosie's Bar.
When I ask how many burns, I mean at BRC.

We had a neighboring RV a couple of years ago with a dish set up outside, but they were there the whole week and had nothing set up in front of their RV besides the dish. I never saw anyone go in or out of the thing.Tiahaar wrote:Camp behind us had a big RV pull in late in the week, big satellite dish propped up on top, half built shade pole thing out front...never did see anybody doing much outside, surely surely they weren't just indoors watching TV???

bring yer rabbit ears
Heh, how long before someone does a pirate playa TV station with roaming cameras; folks would never have to get out of their RV they could just lounge inside and watch BurningMan...at BurningMan

I'm game. Let's set it up! I've seen guys walking along a street at BM holding a video camera pointing at their face doing a self-interview cum voice over of their experiences at Burning Man. We'd have _lots_ of video for the station to broadcast. :->
(And then there's all those guys sitting at intersections videoing the topless chicks.)

COPS: Black Rock City!
(Cops is one of the few shows I think might actually qualify as reality television. Where else can you see someone who is being arrested for drug dealing attempt to take a cell phone call?

...several years ago there was a camp with a TV-like thingy being used as a fire-pan. A bunch of people were arrayed in front of it staring at the rosy glow, just as if they were watching their favorite late-night talk show....I thought the content was actually SUPERIOR to typical network TV.

For a while, this feed was what it claimed to be... free. It was recorded, produced, and broadcast from the playa. You could go to the website and watch the pods. Nt anymore, it seems.
Still touches on what this thread is about.

Wait...
You might be able to watch them here, but I can't get it to work right now. Not sure why that is.

Hi!
There have been a number of tv projects that I have heard of. Two rant stations in'98 & '02 channel 8 I think, Imfamous Channel 4 in '02.
The broadcast of the burn last year was simulcast in BRC part 15 on channel 3, home of playa-cam 3, a roving camera.
Most of these broadcasts are aimed at kids in RV's while mom and pop rave, and have very weak signals and weak progaming.
The coolest project I've seen was a butt cam in center camp. You looked into this oricle to see your butt on tv. There was this tv about 100 feet away with a bunch of people watching somebody wiggle butt on tv.
