As a side venture, I'm planning a theme camp at the World Equestrian Games in 2010. That's happening in Lexington KY and I figured Burning Man culture is as much American culture as anything (and a damn sight finer).

They're charging $20 a night for grass campsites w/water and electricity. The camp will of course be horse-related, and feature my yurt (refurbished, of course). I'm calling it Warlandia (to honour the Warlander breed). I'll be making some art, mostly banners but also a small centaur sculpture, probably part of a windvane or armillary. If figured, why not? I won't be riding Tagie in the Grand Prix but I can send equestrians, vendors and visitors from all over the world home with memories of a super-cool camp with all the banners, faerie lights and fountain.

Hell yeah, ChatNoir, you're on my "Come 'n visit" list, but how far is Lexington from Louisville? Not that I mind the distance; if I'm driving all the way from Oregon to Kentucky what's a hundred miles or so either way?

Yeah, totally come visit, but I don't know how available I'll be. I'm basically going to report in at Volunteer Central and say, "Make this Wolf your bitch." Meaning, when I bike from the park back to Warlandia, I'll probably be racked. Into the hammock, pass out.

what am I working on

Post by BonnietheCajunQueen » Fri Mar 23, 2007 1:06 pm

I'm working on a) getting prepared to possibly get kicked out of the Air Force and b)staying in the Air Force. Its a miserable process. Its a lot easier to be let go of the AIr Force than any other branch of service.

I also thought of a great story line for a book. It has to do with a dream I had last night.
I'm Bm-curious.

Earlier, in my imagination, I was working on an idea I had for a peddle car for the playa. I don't know if it will work or not until I can get to a farm supply store.

Pedal power for 2007, I have this tracked thing that didn't do so well being linked to a gym elliptical machine (which will get wheels next time I decide to make it mobile) but now the krawler is powered by a tandem bike pedal setup...testing and work continues...

Nothing-to-Prove's torso is together, but not covered. Her production has been interrupted by the impending Saturday Market season. Money comes first...

Thankfully I have about 130 days to work on her.

Anyway, she looks pretty cool. I even bought a camera, it's just a question of taking the pix. In fact, now that I think about it, I'll go do that...

Bump.

Well, Nothing-to-Prove has teeth, tongue, a belly, throat, unattached ear liners and the skeleton of one arm. I'm going up to Research Mannikins next week and grabbing some tube foam for her fingers.

Yes, she'll be able to drink, actually functionally drink. She'll be able to stick away a magnum of Sutter Home merlot if she chances across one. Well, okay, more like pour it down her throat. But there'll be a place for it to wind up in.

And I have to put in a plug here, my bestest friend on this project is Gorilla Tape. That schtuff rocks.

Though I'll need to restuff the belly with something lighter than, as durable, and as quiet as fabric scraps. They raised her torso weight from the allowable ten pounds to thirty. The whole puppet has to be thirty pounds or less because I couldn't survive long working and walking around with anything heavier and the skin's not even on. Heck, the legs are still just jointed pieces of wood.

My though exactly...Perhaps a vac-hose esophagus, leading to a Camelbak reservoir from whence the contents can be imbibed....

I'm working on something that's sort of the reverse. Helmet-mounted misters for the spacesuit. The local Meijer store had pairs of LED windshield-wiper squirters on clearance for two bucks, so a pair are now part of the "crest" on the helmet along with some sequenced EL widgets, where they can spray water from a reservoir in the backpack.
All of the suit wiring is now DONE- Two strands of EL, more EL on helmet, the blinkysquirters, an LED chaser-beacon on the back, and epaulet-mounted strobes. All green, except for the red squirtylights.

FINALLY finished my state taxes! After all the work and the waiting..., it turns out I do NOT qualify after all for Homestead Tax Credit. (The only way for me to find out was to work all the way through the Homestead Tax Credit form, it was really close. ) I am getting a little over $500 back from the state. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long since I used the online form and am having it directly deposited in my checking account.

Next maybe I will finally get around to getting the playa dust out of my car.... :)

Got it in one, my friend Image

I'll be making a fabric back of the mouth with the vac hose attached to that so as to hide the puppeting werks inside the skull, but that's pretty much it in a nutshell.

Hey, N-t-P's backstory is that she grew up on a viticulture farm. She's been drinking since she was conceived!

I like worms. Too bad there's none on the playa. In fact there's almost no scratch at all. It sucks. You might be right about being a top level carnivore.

I'm at work for the weekend. We're doing a series of experiments where we look at activation levels of various metals when you park a very high energy beam from an accelerator on to a metal 'target.' Just above the rope you see a slug of copper which is secured to a target stand. Just on the other side of the target is a small rack which holds up to ten small samples of whatever metal (or material) you wanna expose to the beam to. The materials in this instance are various metals like copper, aluminum, stainless steel, etc.

Image

The idea is to calculate how radioactive these metals will become if a beam mis-steering takes place during operation of an accelerator. In this case the experiment is related to the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN over in Europe which is set to fire up later this year.

Image

Eventually the data collected here will in some small measure be applied to shielding calculations when building the Inetrnational Linear Collider http://www.linearcollider.org/cms/

Thanks for sharing the pics Iso.

Working a mural to paint in the bottom of my pool. It’s a repaint so this should be fun if any one remembers the bar paint job.

Awesome art, Mozy... looks aboriginal. Almost Maori. Wow... what a fun project! What medium are you using for it?

Not doing any work on Nothing-to-Prove today. I'm digging in and getting some walking sticks and prayer sticks done for my Market booth next weekend. I've got a medical procedure to do this week and I'll be flattened for two days, so I'm trying to get ahead.

Edit: Mozy, that orca is GORGEOUS! I carved a relief of two orcas catching salmon on one of the walking sticks today, just waiting for the stain to dry so I can paint them.
