There is a rare commonality among a lot of burners.
I'm damned if I can figure out exactly what it is though.
I would think it is not so rare in Nevada.
I know I don't find it much in everyday life.

It is hard to tell who has it too.
I have friends that belong but won't go.
Would they get it if they went?
Hard to say.

And then I meet unlikely people that have to be there.
They just know it.

Our team hails from the Twin Cities of Minnesota (Minneapolis and Saint Paul). We are working on getting a dome built for this year's trip out West.
We're charming, neighborly and always watching for new friends! We hope to bring a game of kickball to the playa this year. . .It's sort of a midwest treat/cult pastime when the weather permits (everyone knows how cold it gets here).

Our travel arrangements are still shaping up, so if you or anyone you know needs a caravan or traveling companions, we might just be your match. Drop us a line at our email and we'll get back to you. So far, it looks as though our party will have a few people in it already- ourselves and one friend/neighbor.

Talk to you soon, whoever you are. Smegula and Atom
Please contact us if you like or need! Send emails and we'll get back to you. Neighbors are always welcome in our neck of the woods. . .

There's bunches of burners in the twin cities area. Hang out around here and talk to Zulegoona. He can let you know about the scene there.

Hi my name is Adam. I have been to one burn and am planning to go again this year. I am planning on attending this year while remaining sober, I would be interested in meeting other people to hang with that are sober as well. Not to sound like an arsehole... I am forming a sober community here in Los Angeles so that those who need this kind of event will have somewhere to go. If you are interested in attending our events... DJ'd music, Drums, Fire, Art, etcetera... let me know.

Welcome, anhareus. I'm not a Stepper, myself, but I have the utmost respect for those who are. No need to feel like an arsehole; there are actually several camps on the playa now devoted to Burning clean and meetings all over the event.

Greetings all. My name is Justin.

Been doing a lot of "research" about burning man for the last year or so and this year i finally have decided i'm going to make it out there at all costs.

I spin fire, glowstrings and dance.

Hope to see you out there!

Hello, I'm Brenden.

I've been looking into Burning Man over the last few days and it seems like something I would enjoy immensely. I'm probably not gonna be able to actually attend for a year or two, but I figured, may as well be able to ask questions so I can learn more and discuss.

Hello and welcome! :D

I followed ePlaya for a few years before I could finally attend. It actually is probably a good idea to do so, since it will answer a lot of questions.

hi Levi... Peace Corps, Kenya 78-79... I was going to go last year but had to change my plans... even met Doc from BDCAWB up here in Anchorage last year (he was here to run a marathon) and had a great time chatting with him and looking at pics and watching video... I hope to make it this year, will try to be there for the BDCAWB meet and greet....

There are more pyromaniacs at burning man than in all of pakistan.
And some of these guys are really good too.

The fire cannon are a lot of fun too.

Obligatory intro post! I've actually had this forum account for awhile, but kinda forgot about it. I lurk on the LiveJournal group, which is also pretty damn useful...

Most of the people who've known me for years call me Jag. I've been to the last two burns, hopefully will never need to miss another one, and this time I'm hoping to camp with more of my friends. Most of them are furries - I know you're out there somewhere...

26 years old, originally from the midwest, moved to the SF bay area in 2003, had some unsatisfying customer service jobs before deciding enroll in Ex'pression College of Digital Arts this fall. As far as labels go, I am: furry/creature fan and artist, spiritual therianthrope, goth/raver/rivethead, genderqueer/androgyne, psychonaut, stoner, electronica lover (<3 psytrance), online roleplayer geek (WoW's taken up ALOT of spare time), dyed/pierced/inked freak. But I'm actually pretty shy and easygoing for the most part, despite my weirdness. Burning Man is a welcome escape from the uncreative world; the thing I like most about this place is that no one is afraid to express themselves, and you really CAN see everything here.

Will hopefully have a costume for the first time this year, at least when it's clear and cool enough. Look for Zurba, an orange and white coydog with green dreadlocks. He may or may not be chasing a flock of green parrots...

http://www.livejournal.com/ - perhaps the 800lb. gorilla of blogging sites. Setting up an account is free (although there are paid accounts available with additional features). Once you've done that, go to

http://community.livejournal.com/burning_man/profile/

and click either on the + button to start watching the community from your friends page, or the "join this community" link to actually be able to post.

Greetings, greetings, greetings all. My wife, five year old boy and a couple of assorted hangers on are hitting the 'Man for our maiden burn this year. Travelling from Sydney for the event. I mean, what else would you be doing with your holidays??????

I'm pretty up to speed on what's what but I have some Qs for some experienced burners about arriving and leaving...

When do "most" people arrive... Monday? Tuesday? I'm thinking of getting there Tuesday evening... Should have a spot put aside for us in a camp so that sounds ok...

Also with leaving... can you leave on the Sunday? The website suggests that you can't drive on the Playa till the Monday.

Any guidence would be appreciated....

Looking forward to meeting each and every one of you freaks out there...

Welcome, aussie Irish! And hangers-on, et al..

I personally would not recommend bringing a 5-year old to the playa, and especially not on your first burn, for a variety of reasons. But that's just me. I'm sure you will do your homework, and it will work out fine.

As far as arriving and leaving are concerned, i would guess that the majority of people arrive between sunday and tuesday. Arriving tuesday night your first year is a good goal.

And many people do bail on sunday night, many just after the temple burn. I have done that before, and it was an ok option, but i prefer waiting until tuesday afternoon, if possible. Sometimes schedules just won't allow it, so you go when you have to. Leaving anytime monday is an exercise in patience.

Arrive as early as you can.
It is the best part of the week.
Don't forget the altitude.
You can come early if you arrange to volunteer and work.
If you have time, it makes the distance more worthwhile.

Kids come in arms.
