An open space? You can just show up and set your bum down where you want. :)

If you're looking for people to camp with and share resources you should give some more detail on what you need and what you can offer. Each camp is different from the next. Some are loud and rowdy, other quiet. Some do things together, other just say, "Hi" as they walk by each other. Some require a lot of work to set-up and maintain and others don't require anything other than occasional moop patrol.

Also there will be a list of theme camps posted on the burningman page within the next couple months. You can read through them and contact ones that seem interesting to you.

about myself .. im a 1st year industeral design student and im pretty capabul for working with my hands...

i was thinking of trying to form a camp of BM virgins who came down all by themselves and are looking for a camp to join...since I'm in the same boat...I'm traveling down from Montana on my own and would love to meet up with some of the other loner newbies and maybe all camp together. It might be a bit more welcoming or reassuring or whatever to know that everyone you are camped with is going thru the experience on their own for the first time too. anybody want to join up with me let me know and we'll figure something out!

Camping with them or not, one place you could check out is the international burner hostel camp,.. they could be of help with information of the easiest ways to work out the logistics of flying in from over seas and getting out to the Playa with every thing you need. they seem like a good group of people from all over.

It all depends on what camp you want to join. Some have asskissing requirements, some have high camp fees, some only accept folks of certain genders. It could get expensive, some camps charge fees in the thousands and a sex change could run you a few bucks if you aren't the right gender for your camp of choice.

My personal opinion is that you should consider camping with Lamplighters or DPW or another ORG based camp depending on your personality traits and skills. Obviously if you are considered "crazy" or "insane" by co-workers DPW might be a consideration. If you have no mechanical skills than Lamplighters is the place to be. You will get a feel for camp life without the high cost and drama of the larger themecamps.

A themecamp is a commitment. Take Terminal Village.. some of the camps will have you in performance art mode almost the entire week. This can be loads of fun but its not for everyone.

If you have some local pals participating you could always do your own theme on a small scale. Themecamp registration is basically only to get pre-placed on the playa and an honorable mention in a publication that may or not be correct. Just pick whatever strikes your fancy for a theme, we have all kinds on the playa.. star wars, pirates, ninjas, etc etc.

Most important thing is to HAVE FUN!

Yeah, either head there now and stake out your camp.

or....

Option 2 - For those in the know. When you get there head to 7:30 & C___. Walk along 7:30 towards 7, count 6 camps in, walk in and hand a boiled egg to the tallest person in the camp.

Make sure its the tallest person. ANyone else and they know you're a spy. Then you're sleeping in the open desert with no belongings for a week.

But don't worry, your belongings will be returned to your home address via secure shipping after the event.

Good luck!

if he asks for salt you are expected to produce hot sauce
(no questions asked.)

this signals that you would like the hammock.

if he asks for pepper run.

RUN!

use cyanide at your own discretion.
