I obviously must have missed this..

Post by SunshineSuzy » Sun Apr 15, 2007 10:19 am

In all my readings between last year and this year, I'm beginging to think I miss something very important..When I first started seeing it around, I simply ignored it.

I have no idea, whatsoever, what a lamplighter is.
It seems very important, they obviously get cool presents. ;)
I want cool presents, where do I sign up? ;)

This will be my ninth year at Burning Man, and I have NEVER seen a lamplighter. And it's not like we're secluded out by the airport or something. I doubt they even exist. Like Larry Harvey; never seen him there either.

I've had Larry Harvey pointed out to me. But that doesn't mean I believe in him.

2006 was my first year and I saw both Lamplighters and Larry Harvey! Unfortunately, both were gone by the time I got my camera out, so you will just have to take my word for it that they exist! :P

(Hey! Maybe it was Larry Harvey who unzipped my tent during the big dust storm! Darn him!)

Trivia: Larry Harvey was one of the first lamplighters!

Seriously, if you've never watched the Lamplighter procession, try hanging out by the keyhole at just before sunset. They're on the job every night of the week and it's a gorgeous ceremonial procession.

If you are looking for "photographic" evidence, you could watch any of the Burning Man DVDs. The three that I have all feature the lamplighters.

(and I vaguely recall Larry Harvey being in there somewhere, too)

How many Larrys will there be this year? I've thought about being one before, but the thought of wearing a hot Larry costume all week....
