Flame Speakers

Post by gyre » Mon Apr 23, 2007 7:21 am

These mythical beasts actually work and can reproduce music within a certain range.
A future art car maybe?

I just saw a docko on strange weapons and they had a flame speaker designed to kill, so bass is apparently possible.
It used two parabolic dishes focussed and a pulsed flame to generate intense force.
I think it ran at 1500 cycles.
This was a nazi weapon and was not supposed to have made it into battle.
It was a large design, but would have been psychologically effective.
French research indicates it may have penetrated normal defenses.
Their low frequency research penetrated thick concrete and lead shields and resulted in internal bleeding and other physical damage.
Ravers take note: Little research has been done as to safe levels of sustained low frequency on humans.

So, how about an art car that produces audio like a burner?
I would think multiple small jets would work best.
Speakers are for the non-burner.

Got any links for those? They sound really interesting!

I have only seen them hand made.
It seems like the flame can respond as fast as the valve.
The limitation may be in how fast a valve you can get.

I saw the ww2 hardware on the discovery channel.

Actually, to my understanding, you can actually have flame be a speaker directly; valve speed would be irrelevent. What you need is a modulatored (ie 'sound') high voltage potential across two probes inside a plasma field (ie 'fire').

Check out: http://www.swtpc.com/mholley/PopularEle ... cation.htm

I'd like to build one of these, but I'm working on other stuff right now.

Also, you can have a speaker 'pulse' a flame directly by passing the gas through a chamber that changes the enclosure volume with speaker movement. This is easier to build, but is not actual flame amplification.
