Cryptofishist!
Much Appreciations to Sensei for bringing it back to Fishy and who she is. I was starting to feel a bit horrified with the playa talk, knowing that Fishy wasn't even planning on going back there before all this happened. I think, for now, we should keep the focus on building the foundation of funds so that when we know either from her or her family what she needs, we can be ready to spend it.

small note of "yeah what he and she said"
Yes Fishy doesnt like the desert, but she loves all of us....Her Burningman is the 358 other days WITH US online here and tribe and other asst. virtual box addresses...as well as spending real time visiting us in person in default.
She had already posted and made clear in person that she would not be attending physically this year. The Norwiegen herrings are coming to burningman in 1:87 scale, and Fishy requested to them if she could join their camp this yr....as well in 1:87th scalesssssss!
Yes, it would be great if she could come if not this yr but others...But really... she came to the desert...she made all of us as new friends and family, and that was enough for her.
So basically yes, she doesnt want to go, and with new limitations, the best thing for us family and friends to do is just always be there for her, keep her version of burningman alive, look forward to her well versed as always posts, and especiaslly keep the contribution to the family financial and physical needs open to what might be needed.
Yes I think the desk top/laptop idea is the best right now.
As for the construction, yes we all jumped over that hurdle only to wake up and say to ourselves that that will have to be decided by her biological family. It may indeed be quite awhile before that is needed.
But I dont want the flame to go out on that idea, so when they say..."hey we need blood, sweat and tears help here to pull this off"...we need to go help.

Yes... well said.
Holding pattern.
I think this is a wise and non-rushed approach. Wait and see what is needed, then act when the opportunity arises.
The romantic part of me wants to see Fishy in the desert, but honestly this is a selfish emotion on my part. The realistic part of me knows that this probably won't happen. Who knows? Perhaps this will cause her to say, "I need it now more than ever". But the truth is it will be her decision and it should be respected. And honestly, returning to the event is a decision that is one of the least important she will be facing after coming around and being made aware of the new challenges she is facing.

Hey all,
I've been following Fishy's condition daily here and on the blogspot since I first found out about the accident, but didn't feel like anything I could say here on eplaya could possibly make any difference to anyone, given the circumstances.
I met Fishy online here on eplaya, and then in person on the playa at the 2004 M&G. She had just gotten married that afternoon. She was delightful! We had a long conversation, right after I almost got my ass kicked a few times!
For those of you who weren't around, immediately prior to Bman in 2004 there was a trash-talking little troll here on eplaya named Black Rock Ric, who had made some vague threats toward the Fishist. When first arriving at the M&G, I got the brilliant idea of putting "Black Rock Ric" on my name tag - as a put-on, of course.
From the discussion at http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... hlight=ric
So, I'm deeply saddened by the Fishist's tragic accident. I'm thinking about and praying for her daily. I sent her a card today, but after posting it, I too late read the note on the blogspot "No Presents Please - Only Cards." Just to try to provide the little tiny bit of encouragement that I could offer, I included a tie dyed bandana that I made and a refrigerator magnet with a quote from Lewis Carroll:
"Alice laughed. 'There's no use trying,' she said. 'One can't believe impossible things.'
'I daresay you haven't had much practice,' said the Queen. 'When I was your age, I always did it half an hour a day. Why, sometimes, I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.'"
Hopefully, she'll get them.
Count me in on providing financial support and doing whatever else I can to help.
Keeping Fishy in my prayers,
Steve (RingO')

For another thing, it shows how much the Fishist is loved, because I nearly got an ass-whupping two or three times for my put on. Fishy and I had a great laugh about it though.samtzu wrote: If it helps any, it was funny to watch Ring with his "Hello I'm Black Rock Rick" badge at the Meet N' Greet! He almost got decked, three times, within a pico-second of someone reading it!! For one thing it shows the lack of tolerance that ePlayans have for this cretin... for another, it shows what a joke he really is.
It's good to get rid of the schmuck.
theCryptofishist wrote: Kind of the opposite of my experience. I recognized Ring right off from his avatars and that red hair, but I'd lost my glasses and couldn't read the tag. When I did, I bust a gut laughing--it was a great way of dissing him because we knew he wasn't going to show to THAT. It felt WONDERFUL! Of course Ring isn't no 6'2". What's with all those e-playans being shorter in person anyway? Or is that desert shrivel?

The legs are gone only when you're eyes are open. Just know that we are here...so many are here for you. Do you know how many legs you actually have? Do you? Well? Alot! Use them. Use mine Fishy. I will run for you, walk for you, anything.
See, you do have legs. Along with that, a whole new life ahead of you filled with so many who love and appreciate you. Embrace it Fishy. You are indeed a beautiful and blessed soul.
Now, if you excuse me, I gotta go shave your legs. Love ya.

I think her friends - of which I hope I am one - will be by Fishie no mattter what, and not just in the short term either. She has this way of infecting people, and like doom, they're hooked!!!
I feel horrible that I wasn't much of a friend when Scott was lost - I have a very, very bad way of dealing with death, even more so when it happens to someone I know or to a friend of mine. I feel like I let Fishy down, and I swore if I ever had a chance to make up for it I would. (Maybe I shoulda been careful what I wished for!)
Anyway... this is the best news I could have heard, I am exstatic she is awake and aware, and f*(**ing bored? BORED? Yeah!! Now *THAT* sounds like Fishy.
Quick - someone get her a laptop!!
And to you, my fine finned fishie one - the shark may have thought it had you beat, even tho it wounded you, you showed it down and survived. But we're not surprised about that - you're not only a survivor... you're the strength a lot of us wish we had! (And that, my dear, ain't no shit!!)
Hugz (and get home soon!!!)...

i'm not the one to setup a paypal account, needs someone people know more intimately to trust with money like that. but if people can agree on that being one of the more important things to get her then there's probably enough support to get one, and i would make a contribution right away.Bay Bridge Sue wrote:Quick - someone get her a laptop!!
general suppliers have been mentioned, but probably need to discuss specs on what it has to have..
- dual pcmcia card slots, one for ethernet and one for wifi
- usb port
- firewire port
- at least 256mb ram
- several gigs disk
- mobile specific cpu
...etc
or skip all the wintel stuff and go for a new powerbook?

A number of the newer systems have wireless networking built in.
256mb ram is minimum requirement for win xp O/S.
512mb of ram is recomended with 1 gb of ram being much better.
80 to 120 gb HDD space seems to be standard and is good.
CD/DVD burner because if you are doing graphics or downloading music you will eventually fill your HDD.
DO NOT GET WINDOWS VISTA.. Even if you can save several hundred dollars on the price of the system by doing so. I do tech support for it and it truly sucks. (I have moved to another operating system and will not be getting another microsnot product again.)

I agree with most people, it wasn't just hearing that she's awake, but hearing that she's bored that gave me hope.
Just knowing how much support is around her can make a great difference, but not as much as physically being there when needed can (when she's home & ready, of course).
I may have to go get a damn drivers license.

LiveSTRONG is for cancer but I think it could easily apply to any enormously challenging life event. I'm sending good STRONG beautiful energy towards Fishy <i><b>right now</i></b>.
Actually, I have my house altar on the east side of my room. Austria is to the east. I looked at my Strength piece on the altar, a glass bottle that not only survived the first San Francisco Earthquake, but the Ogoun altar of the 1999 Opera. In the bottle's neck is a fountain of fruit. From endurance comes sweet fruition. May it be thus.

Having 2 brand new Windows Vista laptops over here I've got to say steer clear. Fishy's going to have enough frustration without fighting some balky laptop that constantly needs updates and is a general pain in the ass to deal with. If there's a way to get a new Powerbook for her...I hope that's the route this thing goes.spectabillis wrote:i'm not the one to setup a paypal account, needs someone people know more intimately to trust with money like that. but if people can agree on that being one of the more important things to get her then there's probably enough support to get one, and i would make a contribution right away.Bay Bridge Sue wrote:Quick - someone get her a laptop!!

And while there might be some limits on what can be bought, remember that HDD's and ram can be upgraded, the CPU can't so that's not a place to skimp. Another thing...does anyone have employee discounts with Apple that could help out here (Corporate Perks or other benefits services)? Or are there any lurkers with connections to Apple that might be able to pull off something special?
