Whats on your list?

Post by Lakshmi » Mon May 14, 2007 7:05 am

I must admit I've become a bit of a BM nerd and as I've read up on it I've taken notes. The notes have turned into a pack list and I thought it would be helpful and interesting to see what other fellow organized attendees have on their pack list.

Here is whats on mine =) If there is anything I've forgotten let me know!
  • 1.5 gallons of water/person per day
    1 ply toilet paper
Suntan lotion, lip balm, skin lotion, aloe vera, and hand sanitizer
More than one pair of sunglasses (in case I lose a pair which I probably will)
    Heavy duty trash bags
    Lots of Ziplock bags
    Coolers
    Solar shower bags
    Dr. Bronner's soap
Bike (duh) and Bike repair kit
    Medical kit
    IB Profen
    Tampons
    Fire extinguisher?
    Calling cards
Warm clothes and sleeping bags for nights
Flashlights including a headlamp and spare batteries
    Umbrella and pretty parasols
    gifts for friends and trading
Wide brim hat with chin strap
    Cooking stove
    Earplugs (more than one pair)
Tarps for under tent as well as for shade.
    Battery run radio
    Camp marker
    Particle/dust mask
    3" rebar stakes
    Goggles
    Extra set of car keys
    Large trashcan
Work gloves, sledge hammer, crowbar, hammer
    Bungie cords
Tent for sleeping and storage tent
    Shelter to hang out under
    Chairs
Wash basin, mesh bag for drying dishes in
    Plastic containers and pitchers
    Baby wipes
    Bucket for bathroom emergencies (ew)
    Heavy coat for nights
3L Camelbak w/ neoprene extreme weather drink tube
    sewing kit
    duct tape
    spray bottle
    water bottles
    rugs to keep dust down
    hopefully a comfy couch
light reflective material to tie to tent ropes
Does anyone know the html for a cut? The thing that hides something behind a link to conserve space.

Bring your tampons in a make-up bag, with empty zipper sandwich or snack sized bags to take the wrappers and used ones away. You can't put them in the potties. A ribbon on the bag makes it hands-free, you can put it around your neck.

Yeah, there's something about BM that seems to cause menstruation, regardless of a formerly regular cycle. Bring extra tampons for friends. They run out pretty quick at medical.

Bring a bottle of vinegar to rinse your feet with. It counteracts the alkilinity of the playa.
And a pair of visegrips to get the rebar out.
And some artificial tears for when your eyes get dusty.
Neosporin and bandaids.
Beer to gift me! (good beer)
Bratwurst.
Gatorade mix.

I have a friend who has gone 2 years now and each time she was on her period. Talk about bad luck.

It is said that women who live together somehow get on the same menstrual cycle. Maybe so many women in close proximity to each other for a week triggers it to start.

Sweet, some of those things I hadn't thought of. Beer and gatorade are such a given I didn't bother to list them ^.^

3' rebar might be overkill. It all depends on what sort of shade you want to hold down. Same with the crowbar and regular hammer. If you already have them go ahead and toss them in the car, but I wouldn't purchase them just for the trip. If a sledge hammer and vice grips won't get the rebar out, someone in your area will be able to help you out.

A fire extinguisher in the camp is probably a good idea, as long as it's in an easily accessible spot and everyone knows where it is. Not something every individual camper would need unless they're doing some sort of fire art.

I pack a "drive home kit" in a ziplock bag and hide it in my car - clean normal clothes, $40 cash, credit card, expired ID, list of emergency phone numbers, directions home, etc. I've never needed it, but it eases my worries a bit.

Louise and I have a Reno bag each that stays in the van and is never opened on the playa. We spend a few days in Reno after the Burn while Louise updates all her Web pages, and the Reno bags are what we live out of - clean clothes, clean shoes, and such.

I forgot about that. My friend who goes told me to do that also.

Glad you posted your list. You have a few things on yours that I hadn't thought of such as binoculars. I can't believe I didn't think of that considering I love watching people.

Where can you find collapsible cups cause that sounds pretty handy. I think Glad has made collapsible tuberware.

Over half of the items on your list are luxury items. You really do not need them. Are you driving or flying in?

Mine is:

The pile of camping crap in my garage
The pile of burningman crap in my office
The pile of projects in my back yard
The pile of projects in my brothers back yard
Some food

To try to list the stuff would be a huge task since I've been building some of these piles for many years and every time I look through them I remember things I otherwise forgot about. I partition off stuff and grab different sections of stuff, depending on what my plans are. For burningman I just grab it all.

I'm with mikev-My list is:

Everything in the NW corner of my garage.
The costume boxes from the closet.
M*A*S*H 4207th: An army of fun.
I don't care what the borg says: feather-wearers will NOT be served in Rosie's Bar.
When I ask how many burns, I mean at BRC.

There are definitely a few things that I don't need, such as a couch or an extra tent for storage. But considering how harsh of an environment I'll be submitting myself to I might as well try to make it as comfortable and pleasant as possible. I'm aware of the reasons for each item I'm bringing and when it comes to time to pack and I don't have enough room in my car (I'm driving) I'll know what to take off the list first. Plus most of the items on my list I won't need to buy because I already have them.

What's the idea behind the expired I.D.?

Why is that important?

The idea being if I lose my wallet I'll have some form of ID with me. The only other current ID I have is my passport and I'd rather leave that at home.

A photocopy is better than nothing for id too.

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.

A more complete list... almost finished... this is only what I am bringing not necessarily what one would need. Some may think a couch and pool table a luxury. I would bring a whole pool hall if I could afford to.

Our theme camp has about 1,100 of them. You have heard of our camp, right? Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro? Come by for a massage, glass of wine, and a ride on our flame-thrower laden art car. You'll figure it out.

A Barbie-in-a-Bottle of vinegar would be nice.
