Chögyam Trungpa (February 1939 – April 1987)
was a Buddhist meditation master, scholar, teacher, poet, artist, and a Trungpa tülku.
Widely recognized, both by Tibetan Buddhists
and by other spiritual practitioners and scholars (Midal, 2005),
as a preeminent teacher of Tibetan Buddhism,
he was a major figure in the dissemination of Tibetan Buddhism
to the West, founding Vajradhatu and Naropa University
and establishing the Shambhala Training method.
His controversial career is characterized by his style of "crazy wisdom"
by his Western followers.
Physically weakened by years of heavy alcohol use,
he died of heart failure at the age of 48.
In Tibetan Buddhism, a tertön is someone who discovers a terma,
or hidden text.
Guru Padmasambhava predicted that in the future hundreds of tertons
will spread his teachings.
Throughout the centuries many more people were known as tertons.

On the first part of the journey
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a guy with a buzz
And the sky with no clouds
The heat was hot and the ground was dry
But the air was full of sound
After two days in the desert sun
My skin began to turn red
After three days in the desert fun
I was looking at a river bed
And the story it told of a river that flowed
Made me sad to think it was dead
I was looking at all the life
There were plants and birds and rocks and things
There was sand and hills and rings
The first thing I met was a guy with a buzz

But the air was full of sound

Made me sad to think it was dead

when i was just so tall
i'd run over fences
and climb up the wall
lucy's getting by with diamonds...
lucy's getting by with diamonds...
you can have a namesake
or you can have some personality
i'd run over fences
and climb up the wall
lucy's getting by with diamonds...
lucy's getting by with diamonds...
you can have a namesake
or you can have some personality
instantiate vacuous truth
