Thanks! While you are recycling farm implements I'm recycling large 3.25 dia EMT left over from when my workplace installed a standby generator. They were throwing quite a few of these beautiful 3-4 foot lengths and a 90 bend away...had to salvage them! Imagine the dome you could build with that size stuff : )LeChatNoir wrote:And by the way... what is that tubing you're using? It looks larger than regular bicycle tube. Nice work, too.
Hey with your monster spinning kinetic battery in place you ought to be getting close to a road test yes? I have flywheel envey
Woops!!! Alright LeChat and Karine you snuck in there, heheh, so the bunny toss is the winner hmmm??? I mean the bunny wins the coin toss!! OK, time to do some drawings : )
Bunny Toecutter?

Before I can road test it I need to finish the pump tower. Getting some brakes on it might be a good idea too. I mean... I’ve got the actual brakes finished, but I've yet to finalize the cables to actuate them.Hey with your monster spinning kinetic battery in place you ought to be getting close to a road test yes?
Won't be long though...

I have not been bikeing much after 06 burn.. Now that the trike is up and runing nicely it's time.. Put it in compound low and rode an hour.. Had to use the inhaler to get back home.. I will go out each morning and change up one speed and ride an hour.. Plus hualing from the store.. Takes two people to lift that trike.. So I had better get in shape.. I am in shape now... Round is a shape??

I want one of those 3D projectors from Dhalgren.
Anybody know where I can get one of those?

I have done a little work on a walking 12 foot man for 08..
This morning I decided to not make any thing.. I have a plan on the cork board for a real peddal/eletric hybred.. It will go on the art table as soon as the music machine is off..
The trike/music machinewill be done in a week.. All the parts to the man pulling a ric-shaw are in the shop.. That will completed in a month or so..
If any one wants to make there head spin?? The man wouldbe pulling a wagon (Western Flyer) and walk with a staff.. The wagon tong and staff would be the stability between steps.. The power would be in the wagon (peddle or electric) tong..
My farther in law/camp mate just called.. I can go get him out of the hospital in and hour..

Dhalgren-coming to your city soon
Dhalgren is a novel by Delany about a us city that just collapses and no one seems to know why.
Gangs are roaming around wearing these 3D projectors set up to project an el wire type glowing image of a scorpion or some other creature over the wearer.
It's one of those images that stuck with me long before I ever saw any el wire.
It is how all of our cities will die.
No one knows if it was some catastrophe or everyone just moved, but no one does anything about it.
They just accept it.

GYRE, I have retired into a fithwheel and am into micro living.. Taking BM to the limit.. Less is more time for fun.. I sleep in the loft of the RV in a hammock.. You would be suprised how much fall to the floor below.. I just take a long handled swiffer to the whole place.. The air cleaner is an older model.. I have up graded it to my best and converted to 12 volts.. But am interested in your idea for a filter.. I find some times low teck trumps hi teck
It's just my usual sledgehammer approach.
I use a standard sized air filter which may be too bulky for your situation.
The smaller and more specialized, the more costly and of course, the quicker they have to be replaced.
They are made for air systems and are usually surrounded by steel so all you have to do is attach an adequate blower for your use.
A typical size is 24 by 25 by 6" and the the hepa level got to 12 " deep.
A typical price is $175 to $350, but these are medical grade and good for ac use for six months to years.
I got some damaged for about 70% off.
Check the upfront costs on air filters if you get really good ones.
They add up quickly.
You could get a smaller one though and still get a long duration out of it.
You could even use your current system as the blower for one of these filters.
The big filter has around 200 square feet of filter material folded up.
No trick to it.
And the slower air flow is the better filters work.
A 95% run slow should do close to 99%.
At one of these supply places a decent ac filter is about $7.
And that is thick.
I use one as a prefilter.
If you keep changing the prefilter, the big filter should never clog up.
It can take a little looking, but any big town should have someone selling this stuff.

dang I knew I should have kept it under wraps now I have to build it! Maybe just an el wire frame this year unless a cache of foam and faux fur turns up, and hi Robotland yes Billion Bunny March would be requiredkarine wrote: but is it foam, el wire, fabric wrapped, chicken wire?
Ok the weekend is past there must be more progress on the Kontraption LeChatNoir what's the latest?

Progress has been slower than usual lately, due to being involved in the local Humane society's Garden Party and Silent Auction. Its the first one we've had and Karine and I (with many others) were neck deep in getting it together. So it took up the entire weekend, actually. But... it was a terrific success. The weather was p e r f e c t and we far surpassed our goal of simply breaking even the first time.
Hoo-Rah!!
But there has been Contraption progress on the weeknights over the past couple of weeks. I'll get some pics together soon.

It was pretty cool and it could turn in circles too.
Would have been great in the dark.
I know someone with a new 300 hp helicopter turbine, no tranny.
Contraption, anyone?

We need something to give the inertia of the pump... a "tug". To help the pump get past the fulcrum point. With a one way clutch, you wouldn't have this problem- But with the fly wheel as it is... we are working on some kind of a spring or cam mechanism that will give it some kind of push over that 'sticky point'.
Hmmm... Le Chat is "on it" and I have my own ideas.
We definitely have to get past this little dilemma. This might take some thinking.

Typo...
Karine meant "without a one-way clutch"... As in a fixed system where the pump arm and flywheel are tied together in a solid link and the enertia from the flywheel could carry the pump on past it's top and bottom of travel.
I suspected this would be an issue, but knew I wouldn't know how much until we actually got the pump assembled and could give it a whirl. I built a mini flywheel for the crank shaft, but it's moving so slowly that there's not enough momentum to keep it rolling through the "tough spot" I've also toyed with the idea of putting the cranshaft mini flywheel on another shaft and gearing it up, but that's just eating up energy that could be going into the actual drivetrain.
I"m working on a system of two opposing springs at the moment, but am open to other suggestions.
Karine also suggested some sort of sewing machine-like cam that would kick in one direction and then the other, giving the small, but needed push at the peaks of pump travel.
