You should have no problem getting to sf after the event.
There seem to be a few people going back there.
Check out the Man Burns Tonight for a little taste of what it's like.

Hello everyone
I am Si. I am from England, live in Australia and I just booked my flights to come to burning man... have wanted to come since reading about it in mondo 2000 years and years ago, finally I will make it there! My brother who still lives in England is coming as well, we are meeting up for 1st time in 4 years to come on this adventure. I am so psyched already!
I have myspace if you want to be my friend - I make music and DJ and will bring some tunes with me to the desert.

The Blood Vessel - Rue Morgue
Hi Im Gothalot, founder//creator of The Blood Vessel - Rue Morgue
Past BM projects have included The Black Rock Beacon (ex Gazette) which I started with a handfull of others but I could be termed as the prime instigator. As well as the Spikes bar manager. Ive also done some time with the DMV and at other regionals like Singularity as the Greeter Captain.
My new project, The Blood Vessel - Rue Morgue is a combination Art Car / Theme Camp cosisting of Clarice (The Blood Vesse) a 1971 Caddy hearse transformed into a fire breathing winged monster with a 23 foot coffin trailer for celebrating life. The theme camp is a place where we say goodbyes to or lost ones by folding origami cranes and placing them in one of our hand made coffins destined for the funeral in a scheduled procession.

Virgin Blood from Pacific Beach, CA
Hi. Name is Chip and I am a first-time burner from Pacific Beach in San Diego, CA
To give you a look inside my psyche, my favorite film is Werner Herzog's "Fatamorgana" with Damon Brown's "Beyond Black Rock City" not too far behind.
On the tech side of the house, here's a clip from one of my postings on ePlaya:
---
I am working on some plans to do some HF (ham) radio work at the BM 07. ( see www.kc6ooe.com or www.burningmanzeroseven.com )
Along with the Green Man theme I'd like to develop some "free" and "non-commercial" methods of providing text messaging throughout the world without the use of commercial bandwaves -more specifically, not relying on cell phone repeater technology.
Hams are familiar with this mode, called a terminal node controller, as it not only has been around for almost 30 years but it was actually the packet technology developed by hams that was the precursor to on-line messaging (called BBS for those of you who go back that far - GaRbAgE dUmP BBS in Albuquerque, NM comes to mind), but it was the same technology that is now used by the cell phone companies (obviously much more highly developed.)
If any of you out there have any ideas you'd like to throw out about what we can do with this, I would be interested in hearing about it. And, if it sparks enough interest, maybe a theme camp could even be started.
----
So a couple things... I'd like to hear from anyone who (a.) knew about the GaRbAgE dUmP Adult BBS and (b.) anyone who is wigged out enough to tell me the significance of the image I am using for my avatar.
don't worry, be happy.

I'm not burnt, just lightly toasted.
Don't know a darned thing about a), but b) looks like an electron micrograph of a particle shaped like a human face. I am guessing it was taken with an SEM rather than a TEM. Can't tell much more than that (could be either organic or material-- the background looks more organic, though.)So a couple things... Hello! I read the Black Rock Beacon and stopped by Spikes in 2006 (only time I have been so far.) The Blood Vessel sounds like a cool idea.BloodVessel wrote:Hi Im Gothalot, founder//creator of The Blood Vessel - Rue Morgue

I was thinking about maybe riding my motorcycle down this year. 2 problems the way I see it. 1.) cannot carry much stuff and 2.) I'm worried about my bike while I'm there. I could leave it somewhere and catch a ride in but then where do I stay? Has anyone had any experience riding their bike to Burningman and, if so, how did it go? How did you go about it logistacally?
"Practice is the road on which we travel."
A lot of people ride bikes.
You could always bag it when you get here.
Carrying stuff would be a problem.
It's hard to do this with a small amount of luggage.
And there is your water supply.
That strains most cars and trucks from reno, as it is.

Hi
I'm a virgin burner, arriving this year with my 17-year-old son and maybe a couple of other folks...My darlin' husband ain't interested, darlin' daughter will be at college. We're psyched. Flying to SF and doing our staging there. Got BM tix, plane tix, a mini-van reserved and playa dome on its way, so now come the dirty details. Any suggestions on the best way to make art on the playa? Is it possible to join another group? Is it better to come up with something ourselves?
Hi Nancy! You’re both going to have a great time, but don’t worry about making art out there the first year. Just go and soak it all up. You’ll have a much better idea of what is involved after you see the spectacle in person.

Names pinemom, but my friends call me "Piney".
My name is Brittany. I've never been to Burning Man. I'd like to go, obviously. Doubt I'll be able to afford it this year, but I'm 17, I have lots of time ahead of me to go. I've known about Burning Man for a bit, but recently have been getting a stronger urge to go, likely due to a dream and living in Orange County. Love Orange County like none other, but you get really sick of never having any open space around. Or anyone who cares about anything. Ever. It works though. Wonderful place.
I'm an extremely happy person. Not sure why that is. Just know I did it. I think a good percentage of the things people think and talk about are pointless. I can't stand how people care more about Britney Spears than the rest of the world. Though it probably bothers me more that people are completely fine with ignoring that the rest of the world exists. Shhh, don't you know? The world ends at the American border ;) However, I love people and think the poor things have just been brainwashed, lol.
Umm.
Not sure what else.

Hi All,
My name is Susan but you can call me anything related to the prefix Sass (just don't call me an ass, I make myself one often enough). I live in Chicago and will be making my second trip to Burning Man with a wonderful group of people, one of which will be driving with me from Chicago (I love road trips, probably b/c they are so novel to me since i own no car). Our questionnaire was just accepted so we will be an official theme camp. WOO. I'm a pretty rad gal so feel free to talk to me about what ever crosses your mind.

Hola! Mr.Powers here. I have been teleported here from the outer galactic rim to take over your... wait wrong forum... um, I am here to research my Virgin trip to the big burn in 2008. (since I am to late to get going on 2007)
I actually ran across Burning Man while researching my trip to HedonismII last year and lost sight of it due to my drive to hit Jamaica up.
Anyways I didn't dive to deep into it just noted it was cool and moved on. As of about 6 months ago I started looking deep into it and decided this place is a must for me. So I will be dragging the wife out to the playa and go over board with my creativity.(if their is such a thing)
Currently, I am designing up my camp in 3D(which has brought me here) to get an idea of what I or how I need to do things to prepare for next years burn. Anyways off to researching more I am so stoked I can't wait 1 year 2 months to get here.
For MySpacers you can reach me here HTTP://WWW.MYSPACE.COM/SCOTTRPOWERS

i like reading sexy stories, i like sleeping, i love my family, im a big fan of anything cheesy {foodwise...} . ive given up on organised religion after 20 years as a Jehovahs Witness. i love scotland and want to live there.
i can hear crickets chirping right by my door as i sit here writing this.

Yeah what gyre said!
It’s easy to dream up some fabulous stuff, and it’s fun to prepare for things , but with that much time it would be easy to sink way to much money into your plans and become overly invested to the image of things you’ve painted in your head. when the Playa version of reality hits , the wind is to strong to erect your sculpture, the dust instantly clings to the pretty colors turning every thing beige, your candles melt, It’s so hot you just can’t make yourself do what you planned and kick yourself about it all week, and so on.
I’m not saying don’t let yourself get into it or don’t express yourself, on the contrary enjoy every thing to the fullest, but keep in mind having Expectations can ruin what could be a fabulous experience. There is so much about Burning Man that is harsh and chaotic, things like consuming enough water become a more important than you could have ever imagined. Adaptability and an ability to let yourself flow with the experience is critical to insuring you have the best time possible. If your plans don’t work out ,if you hauled a bunch of stuff a long ways and it never even made it off the trailer, just let it go, it isn’t important, your there, be there let the vibe of the experience wash over you and flow with it be a part of it.
The second year is when most people go crazy with projects and over do anyway, so you got plenty of time.

Hey, Server 47,... welcome look around there is a lot to read on the board and some of it actually can contain good information.
As far as being clean goes, people take all sorts of approaches to it, from elaborate shower/ gray water evaporation systems to just being one with the dust, so it depends on your personal preferences. it’s usually extremely dry, you never know your sweating because all moisture evaporates instantly, the playa is an alkaline talcum powder fine dust that gets everywhere no mater what. it is important to take good care of your feet because the dust can cause them to dry and crack causing an ailment know as playa foot that can be very uncomfortable. an acid like vinegar or lemon juice added to wash water can help neutralize the dust and a lot of moisturizer afterwards is a good thing......
no really this is going to be fun you’ll see

Another virgin!
Hey kids,
Just another virgin from the Bay Area...
Looking forward to this year's burn!!! Been to some of the regional stuff up in SF, and had a blast, but I'm sure nothing compares to BRC. It'll be a bit of a reunion of college friends coming together from around the country (and overseas as well), so double the fun.
Anyway, my name is Maya. I'm a (relatively responsible) hedonist, love hot weather, being costumed or naked, and definitely love me some phat beats and brain-rattling bass lines. So I'm guessing I'll be right at home :)
Looking forward to meeting y'all!

Right on, thanks for the input.
No worries on spending to much, trying to salvage everything I need to save money for gas, water, beer etc. My focus on my camp site not blowing away using what materials I already have. I do allot of camping in Texas cold and Hot weather. But, nothing in 70mph winds other than the occasional twister.
Doing allot of research on what people are saying about what type of stakes to use.

I wouldn't recommend shaving. No one cares your legs are hairy, and I think by the third day you won't either.

Oddly enough, I don't usually shave my legs at home, but I do for Burning Man. The little hairs get coated with playa dust and stand up. Ick.
