The Havana Room
In keeping with the "Green" theme, we are creating a paradise in the middle of the desert, inspired by lush Havana of days gone by. So, break out your leisure suit or bunny ears, saunter in like James Bond, Michael Corleone, or one of the Rat Packers, take a seat at the cigar bar, roulette table, or poker pit, and enjoy the show featuring salsa, burlesque, and more. In addition to the show, music ranges the gamut from the Buena Vista Social Club, Bebel Gilberto, even Hooverphonic. Guest DJ's will be spinning everything from theme music to whatever fits the vibe.
We are also looking for talent to fill the stage and pleasure the ears (and eyes) to cavort on our raised stage and catwalk.
DJ's - Especially with a Latin, or Caribbean, or downright exotic theme. If you can get booties movin', we want to talk to you.
Musicians - Do you play Jazz, Lounge Music, Flamenco, or anything that would feel right at home in a swanky lounge? If so, The Havana Room sounds like the right venue for you.
Dancers - Salsa, Merengue, Samba, Swing, Burlesque, or anything exotic (such as Polynesian, or Josephine Baker's Banana Dance). If you have elaborate costumes (such as Carnival type of costumes or Burlesque outfits) then we want you dancing on our raised stage, and taking walks down our catwalk.
Stage Talent - Comedians, Sword Swallowers, Magicians, or anything else you might find in a variety show in the 50's or 60's is welcome here. Just ask, and if it fits the vibe of The Havana Room, welcome to our stage.
Anyone Else - We are welcoming solid people to join our camp, so if you're not afraid to roll up your sleeves then relax with a mojito and fine cigar afterwards, then you've found the right camp. Let's start a dialogue.

Añejo west island rum, neat, with a twist of lime, one ice cube. Ahhhh... Montecristo Corona, and a turn at the Roulette wheel, or perhaps a bit of Baccarat?
Handsome Mediterranean European men in white suits. Gorgeous women in cocktail dresses. And knowing who not to side against. Unless you like boat rides...

I'm not with Gigsville, but I know a few members. Last year I was with Spike's Vampire Bar. However, this year the playa needs a cigar bar, don't you think? ;)
Toolmaker, you're more than welcome to become a barfly at The Havana Room, should you accept your mission.

It's going to be all this and more. I love your writing style, might I see more?
"...how about money laundering? Can we do that in your island paradise?
or maybe we should just invade you!"
I think Apokaliptica beat you to it. ;)

Re: The Havana Room
This is EXACTLY what I wanted our theme camp to be, but no one was interested. (Our theme is, regrettably, really lame.) I am building a kick ass tiki bar, regardless, with palm thatch roof, black lights and a mister system. Im almost tempted to park it at your camp.FallenAngel wrote:inspired by lush Havana of days gone by.... saunter in like James Bond or one of the Rat Packers...Buena Vista Social Club, Bebel Gilberto
Any how, Im darn sure to be a regular at your camp and I will come loaded with rum--and hopefully leave loaded.

Leaving loaded is absolutely on our priority list for guests. That and sample a nice cigar, watch a great show, and get down and samba. We registered last week, but no address yet.

I wouldn't say lame, just another version of a tropical theme. Don't worry, I'll make sure to get loaded at your camp too. :)

Re: The Havana Room
Well, I think our camp's theme, The Mile High Club (see, we're from Denver..the "Mile High City," get it?) could have been a wee bit more creative and original. But I must say the people in that camp are just great folks and we have a great vibe. We've melded the airplane theme with the tiki bar slant and have come up with some really cool ways to interact. We will sorta wrap the two together under a 1950-ish retro polynesian airline thang. But the best part of the camp, like I say, are the super nice people, our Star Loungers, Regina's "hand-jobs," late-riser yoga classes, and semi-pro massages, not to mention, of course, Mai Tai and pina coladas served at an authentic bamboo tiki bar with double blenders and bassanova sounds.zorro sings wrote: Sounds like an interesting dynamic in store for this camp.Good luck.
Now, if that wasn't shameless promotion, I dont know what is!!!

I hope our camps end up close to one another, let's say within a few blocks at least. I think a Rat-Pack bar crawl one of the nights would be a blast.
i think i could come up with a sick little number to come visit you in...i may have some sweet dresses from the 1950s that i could let you have for people to wear.....FUN
Also- mile high city sounds fun! I'm from Denver too....go us
Excellent. We talked about having clothes that people could put on when they enter The Havana Room if they wanted to "slip into something more comfortable."
Thank you very much!

How's this camp coming along? having grown up in Miami and just buying some land in Colorado, I'm ready to visit both yours and Teo's camps! Don't tell Bush, but I've got a connection for some nice Cuban's (and some pretty good cigars too).

Things are coming along amazingly well for being in it's nascent year. The build schedule is running along very well, and our crews are hard at work keeping it that way. I can't even begin to think of how fortuitous we are at having all the right people at just the right time, such as our people with set experience, architectural experience, planning experience, DJs, dancers, etc. etc. It just goes on and on. It's just one of those things that "come together."
Somnivore, are you a member of a theme camp? Also, for those that have a passion for our camp, we are gladly taking donations at PayPal, at the following address; (if you have a PayPal account)

Hello Hello thejohnstamos and FallenAngel:
Sure are a LOT of Colorado-peeps about these days.
Did you guys go to Apogaea?
Please stop by and say hi, particularly around happy hour (whenever the sun starts to set behind the mountains.)
Tiki Bar is built and looks great in my backyard, but I am beginning to have nightmares about highwinds and airborn bars.

When is Apogea? I'm a Southern Californian, not a Colorado resident. Most of The Havana Room crew is from Berkeley/SF (including the other co-founder.) However, if Apogea works calendar-wise and logistics-wise, maybe we can bring out a mini-Havana room.
