Patrick was born in Roman Britain.
When he was about sixteen he was captured by Irish raiders
and taken as a slave to Ireland,
where he lived for six years before escaping and returning to his family.
He entered the church, as his father and grandfather had before him,
becoming a deacon and a bishop.
He later returned to Ireland as a missionary,
working in the north and west of the island,
but little is known about the places where he actually worked
and no link can be made with Patrick and any church.

The Irish monastery system evolved after the time of Patrick
and the Irish church did not
develop the diocesan model that Patrick and the other early missionaries
had tried to establish.

The available body of evidence does not allow the dates of Patrick's life
to be fixed with certainty,
but it appears that he was active as a missionary in Ireland
during the second half of the fifth century.
Two letters from him survive,
along with later hagiographies from the seventh century onwards.

which gives an impression of how Patrick and other Christian missionaries
were seen:

He will chant impieties from a table in the front of his house;
all his people will answer: "so be it, so be it."

most modern scholarship assumes
that Foclut was the site of his captivity.

There is no direct evidence for this location,
but the circumstantial case is fairly strong.
Patrick indicates that during his escape from captivity,
he had to travel about 185 modern miles
to find a ship to take him to Britain,
i.e., a ship on the east coast of Ireland.
Additionally, the Killala area's modern climate,
among the coldest and wettest in Ireland,
meshes well with Patrick's description
of performing slave labor "through snow and frost and rain."

Enraged by this revelation,
the Sentry throws the Void into the Sun,
telling his enemy that he no longer needs him
to balance his own actions of good.

A mystery religion
is any religion with an arcanum, or secret wisdom.
In a mystery religion,
an inner core of beliefs, practices, and the religion's true nature,
are revealed only to those who have been initiated into its secrets.

Mystery religions tend historically to be geographically limited
as to the majority of their core practitioners.
This has changed somewhat
with modern improvements in transportation and communication.

The other general forms of religions
are the "revealed religion" and "natural religion".
The public revelations embodied in a written scripture
are characteristic of any "revealed religion".
The seasonally shared public cult practices
are characteristic of a natural theology
which has a developed mythology
but no single orthodoxy.

derive from a serum
that moves his molecules an instant ahead of the current timeline,

he also absorbs solar radiation for strength.
Even though most of his powers and their limits are unknown,
he displays several abilities
including superhuman senses,
strength,
speed,
durability

While possessed by The Void
he was able to break the Hulk's limbs with relative ease.
His speed is great enough
that he can catch bullets
and far exceed the speed of light.
Nick Fury has stated
that SHIELD has not yet found a way to kill the Sentry,
and Iron Man's scanners
have found no physiological weaknesses in the Sentry's body.
However,
in multiple instances
the Sentry has been shown to be susceptible to mental manipulation.
According to the Sentry,
he can "hear a butterfly's heartbeat in Africa" from New York City.
In the comic Sentry: Reborn
he told one of his opponents
that he has never shown the full measure of his power,
and that should he not want to see them
he should stop what he was doing immediately.
He also stated, in New Avengers #24 and again in Civil War - The Return,
that he has the "power of a million exploding suns."

He can project energy fields and control light,
and he uses his vast mental powers in his daily life,
although they are primarily used for holding his physical form together.
He once was able to implant his memories
inside another person's mind.
He can also emit a radiation that pacifies the Hulk.
As the Void,
Robert possesses the ability to shapeshift,
and through his control over the weather and darkness
he can create destructive storms
and deadly "infini-tendrils".
Victims impaled on the tendrils
experience traumatic visions of the past, present, and future.

The Sentry's nemesis, the Void,
is at his strongest during the night
and in the Negative Zone.
Coincidentally,
Sentry is at his weakest in the negative zone,
although he can still withstand blasts of N-Zone energy.
The appearance of the Void changes,
varying from a shadowy, trenchcoat-wearing villain
to a massive hurricane of darkness.
