This will be my 2nd Burning Man. My son talked me into going last year and I am ever so glad he did. Loved it. Looking forward to this years BM but gas is dear and I will be traveling from Maine with gear (if I find someone to share the ride and costs). Otherwise, maybe I could hitch a ride with someone else coming from the NE. Last resort, plane, but, as I wish to bring stuff, would be better if I ride.

...burning baby jesus was the name of my camp (and will be again this year).
We gave away free public showers with a hose and catch-the-water system. We were right next to the Tequilla Shack...heh heh, very friendly people, hic.

Hi all! My name is Cathy, and live in Southern California. My 16 year old daughter and I are headed to Burning Man this year! (Hubby is not the LEAST bit interested!) My daughter is so excited about going, and after checking into it, I have to say I'm really looking forward to it too! We're driving up with my mini-van full of our "stuff". I do have a question - do you just park and camp if you're not joining a group?

Hi Cathy!!

Welcome to you and your daughter. And to answer your question, yes, you can camp just about anywhere. The city is laid out in streets of concentric semi-circles and radial cross streets. You can camp anywhere but in the street or a place that has been roped/flagged off for a theme camp. Sometime people need a certain amount of space, for instance: We bring a fairly good sized dome with us each year, but we just can't set it up in the dark when we get there all tired and road-weary. So we flag off an area big enough for the dome and our vehicles and set up in the morning.

There's plenty of space, especially on the outer rings. if you want a space that looks packed, ask the folks already there if you can camp there, otherwise, pick a spot out in the great wide open. When you've never been before, it all sounds so confusing, but when you get there it'll make perfect sense. The streets are easy to pick out.

By the way... have you read the first-timer's guide?

Thanks for the advice! We've read through the "survival guides", looked at probably every picture taken there, and have our lists started. (of course, my list is the practical food, water, camping supplies, and her list is costumes, bike decor, burnable art and such!) She has a friend who went last year, and his stories are insane! She has some buddies going too, so hopefully we can meet up in Reno and caravan in together. Can't wait!

I'm Tony, 2006 was my first year at Burning Man and I absolutely fell in love. I didn't understand the welcome home at the beginning but it was abundently clear what it meant only a couple of days into the week. I'm looking forward to returning home this year.

I went with my wife last year and will be returing with her this year. We're also bringing our son for his first Burning Man.

Burning man will be an incredible experience for you this year. The Excitement and Anticipation of the trip reading every thing on the main site and here, looking at the pictures , getting to know people on line youâ€™ll have a chance to meet in person at the event, every thing! wow!,... but as you approach the gate and are about to enter burning man be sure you rid yourself of every expectation you have about it, all hopes and desires, all of those anticipations, all of it ,and just let it be what it is and become one with it be a part of it and enjoy. Particularly in the harsh environment, with sleep deprivation and all the surreal things around you itâ€™s easy to become depressed when the things you expected donâ€™t materialize the way you thought they would , so by getting rid of those expectations your free and open to experience your own trip as it unfolds to you, in itâ€™s particularly burning man serendipitous way.

I am researching and planning my first burning man. I bought the airline tickets last week so I guess I'm committed at this point.

I am a 41 year & single living, working, and playing in Austin, Texas. My last gf was a bit too uptight for BM and my utilikilt fetish so now is the time. I have been known to dabble in erotic fireplay when I find willing partners. I was raised by an art teacher so the pictures looks like home already.

I just returned from my 19th annual trek to the Kerrville Folk Fest, So I know how to camp for extended periods in variable weather conditions. The dust and extra water needed will certainly add to things. I have been daunted by the prospect of getting enough vacation to haul our camp out to burning man and back for the last few years. A friend has volunteered to drive out with the camp and pick me up in Reno in exchange for his ticket, other wise I may have to get a rental and go really light.

Did you go to the texas regional?

You may find less nudity at burning man than in texas.
Don't forget the wind.
It may not be dusty, like last year, who knows.
Last year was very wet, relatively speaking.

This really sucks... we moved to Reno last year, jumped on tickets for this year and were really excited about joining in when .... I got fired. So instead of trying to "get with the program" I'm having to "get out of the program". So get the word out .. 2 $250 tickets available and will gladly provide evidence that I have them in hand.

some of us have to deal with 4000 miles transport too.
You just need a ride down the street.

:twisted: Hey, hello one and all. I've been trying to get to the Playa for years. I have always asked the wrong people if they wanted to go. They always backed out for one reason or the other. So, It's a forgone conclusion this year that *I* will be there on the Playa. I'm the Ctjester. I am the Viscount Gerald the Radiant of Piddletrenthide Under Booth that doesn't mean I crack jokes all day or snif butts under the booth. I don't. But I see humor in most all things. Such as, I thought I would be the old man on Playa..I'm not. You may call be Daddy on special occassions, but never Gramps. Besides what difference does it make. I'll answer that: Hardness and number of times in an hour..errr a couple hours, eggg maybe a day. I have ticket in hand, Camp membership; HeeBeeGeeBee's..in the kitchen hauling the meals out to the healers. Ought ot be good. I will be coming into Reno Saturday the 25th and picking up a small rental car for the trek to the Playa and leaving the 4th from the Playa if I live through it.[color=green][/color]

Hi All! Figure I should stop in and say hi since I signed up here a few days ago! I was a virgin last year and definitely have the bug! So much so that I am now the one putting our theme camp together this year! We've got a great mixed group of veterans and virgins this year and we've been having a fun time working out all the details. I'd wanted to get out to BM for many years and as it turned out, one of my recent business partners is a long time Burner, so to BM I went!
