Why use Wikipedia when I can learn all I need sitting here in the bar.

I've been getting more into mescals. I understand that tequilas are just mescals from the Tequila region of Mexico. But mescal tastes more burnt. Yummy in a yucky sort of way.

Ah, tequila! One of the liquors of the Gods.

Mescals (as opposed to tequilas) tend to come from a different type of agave plant, which can be harvested younger. Jalisco Agave tends to be at least eight years old, and often as old as twenty years before they are harvested

There's a place in Seattle, the Greenlake Bar & Grill, a great place, that makes the best french-dip sandwich I've ever had... but they have no blender! I offered to go to Wally-Mart and spend $13.99 or so and bring them one; they just don't wanna use it. They serve what they call a "Bartender's Margarita". I'd call it a LAZY Bartender's Margarita. So now I'm home, plugging in the Waring Ten-Speed Futura, the very same one that was on the Playa Cruiser for three burns. It's old and beat-up and only about 2 of the buttons still work, but it does the job! And because of it's years of faithful service on-playa, I like margaritas from it better anyway.

Fuck, I'm bored. Where the hell is everyone?

Is it unforgivable to put vodka in the slim-fast I'm having for dinner?

That's what I've been wondering. I recently returned 'cuz I'm coming to the playa this year, and I remember eplaya as such a busy place!

And vodka in the slim-fast... sounds like a plan!

Jesus. The power went out, and it was too hot in the house, so I went outside. I wasn't the only one... I met my neighbors for the first time.

Decided to spin some fire to liven things up, and somebody called the cops. Fucking idiots.

After being on E-playa since 2003 and having raked up the next to highest post count to Cryptofishist of people still listed under there original names on the members list I should have acquired a wealth of knowledge about this board.

Knowledge? well maybe not really but I can make some observations, they may be valid or not.

I was unemployed for 6 months and spent a lot of time on line, that's when I must have really upped my number of posts. So possibly more burners have found employment or gotten themselves a life or something so they don’t come on line or post as much.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of new people signing up, or at least hanging around much and getting to know people. I suppose we might seem to be a tight clique that would be hard to get an in with, but E-playa has always seemed to have it’s core of regulars often more snarky and less inviting that the current group, so that wouldn’t seem to be it to me.
As the online options of all the other bulletin boards has expanded there is less concentration of diverse burners here. Not only the various Tribe, Yahoo, Goggle, and so on boards focused on the main event and special interests, like burning bikes, the costumer boards, fire arts, but the regional boards too, and private camp and village boards have all taken people away from e-playa.

The influx of new blood and the diverse interests intermingling seems to me to important to keeping the energy up on the board. I also feel there is less incentive of sign up if all a visitors questions are already answered and enshrined in a sticky along with whatever snarky response was dealt out at the time.

I suppose it’s possible some of the things dear to my experience here could also be responsible for scaring off new people. The posters and theater of Apokiliptika and the Terminal City group could be making it less desirable to post your idea for a fluffy stuffed animal theme camp or what ever . And the wonderful projects in process threads like the tracked people powered vehicles last year and LeChats contraption this year could be inspiring but also keeping people from posting about there ideas to make there bikes fur coats.

Girls, yup the place needs more girls, in the past when there was a larger contingent of 20 something girls the board was humming , so where have they gone and why aren't they here? I don’t know, maybe cause a lot of us are older guys? Maybe but the dynamics of flirtatious energy powered a lot of interaction in the past. Hey if I knew what would attract 20 something girls I don’t know if I would spend much time on the boards here or anywhere else so someone else is going to have to answer that one.

All in all I don’t have any great ideas, what do you all think? What if anything can we do to reinvigorate E-playa.

I love you people but it has gotten to be a lot like waking into a small town bar with 4 guys sitting at the bar no body saying any thing because it’s all been said , one guy in the corner expounding on some political topic to his two friends, (the same speech as last week ) and the couple off in the dark back corner you can occasionally hear a female giggle emanating from,... kind of stale.

No one has ever labeled me Mr. Excitement, and I obviously don’t have any answers but I sure like to see this place come back to life too. Maybe the decline is inevitable and there is nothing we could do , maybe it’s cyclical and will come back on it’s own, without any intervention but I can’t help but feel we should try something,.......

What the LOVELY Zuley' is trying to say is ...hey boy's and girl's dont just spectate...PARTICIPATE!!!
Burningman is a participatory event!
Get in here and stir up some fun converstaions....!!

Yes, I too am guilty for the last couple weeks of busy'ness, and for see the next couple weeks being much of the same...but you know Ill be in from time to time to slop up some fine tastey cocktails...and my lovely Titwi is always good for hiring a knockout with a nice rack to serve libations!
So hello new people, dont be scared to jump in and say hi!!! We dont bite! we nibble! hehehee

Alot of lifelong friendships have been built in this very thread.
People met here all year long last yr, then we got to meet at the event in person, and it truely was like GOING HOME!
the most welcoming feeling in the world to finally meet everyone in person, more as to put a face to the people youve talked to for a yr...Family!
love to everyone!

That's Right Kids! Sign Up, You Can Make A Difference!

While I’m in an expounding sort of mood

There is a concept I probably won’t explain very well, used in city planning. It has to do with interrupting the view, if you have an uninterrupted view of the way out of a down town people tend to take it and leave, because they are already on the path, if you have a building that blocks the view creating a sense of containment it creates a sense of place and they tend to stay longer. The same is true in store design, even if you don’t really slow down the actual time it take to get out physically people tend to stay longer .

I hate shopping and it’s just that sort of store design that really gets to me but to tell the truth, I really did need those batteries and bath towel, and socks besides the can opener I went in for. And you “guestsâ€

One of my theories about this message board dying out is that as I recall from "the olden days" a few years ago there was a lot of tension and agression that built up. Eventually we got tired of fighting. But, that fighting brought energy and debate.
Sometimes one of the great trolls of the past would come by and inadvertently unite the eplayans by giving us a common enemy. Who could forget Rex (aka "allanon") with his Neon racing on the playa yet always telling us we were ruining the playa surface, or maybe the ultimate arch-enemy of all eplaya time, oh hell, what was his name... he was from a town right nearby the playa, said he was a Las Vegas Skip Tracer, used to come on here and antagonize people and make thinly-veiled threats, totally hated BM and everything about it...

I might be an example of what happened. I was a regular on here since '03, got caught up in a bunch of the online sparring with people like Badger and Dianne O'Thirst (whom I later realized were some of my favorite people here, no enemies at all!) and just sorta quit coming around. (I think I'm even personally responsible for Lydia Love's exit!)
Also, after 5 consecutive burns, I kinda' wandered off into other parts of my life and didn't go to BM for a few years. It's hard to maintain such a high level of enthusiasm for the event, and all things related to it, indefinitely.

I suspect that a lot of the old crowd went out in similar fashion.
I'm back 'cuz I'm going this year, but a lot of the burners I know aren't going, due to the usual myriad of reasons.

Maybe everything died down just 'cuz I wasn't here...
