I've signed up for the shift with the Terminal City camp but haven't been added yet.

Ahmmm, basically...I started up this morning and EVERYTHING was back to Apple defaults. No bookmarks, passwords forgotten, bare-bones basic interface without all the cool customizations and tweaks.

Bummer.
I'd like to know how to back up things like that.

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.

Once I get a machine running the way I like with all my favorite programs installed and whatnot I use a hard drive cloning program. May not be the prefered way to backup but it works for a novice computer user like myself. This requires a second hardrive to be on hand of course.
If some kind of major OS update is what fucked ya up than this method will probably not work for you if you have automatic updates enabled.

No, I was installing printer drivers after a hardware malfunction. But they have USB drives at the office supply box so I'll probably pick one of those up today. I spent nine hours getting back up to speed...the good news is I found some more Firefox add-ons and widgets that are pretty cool.Toolmaker wrote:If some kind of major OS update is what fucked ya up than this method will probably not work for you if you have automatic updates enabled.

What's funny was when she said "Ahmmm, basically...I started up this morning and EVERYTHING was back to Apple defaults." I kinda figured she WAS a Mac user and not a PC user... there was no insult to you virus-magnet, glutton-for-punishment PC people anywhere.mdmf007 wrote:Its funny how mac users can point out a feature to a PC owner and make an insult out of it. lol

TDF - this board is not just for all your chearleaders to group up on everyone else. Why is it okay for "your peeps" to talk shit. If you all want to eat vanilla ice cream all the time, than maybe you are right, otherwise please check the hypocrit at the "gate." If it is only for your friends and BM is only for your friends, than you are correct, I should go somewhere else. I am not sorry for expressing my opinions by pointing out ZB's desire for others to "stay home."Archantael wrote:I disagree with that...besides it takes all kinds of people to keep this place interesting.Teo del Fuego wrote:sorta wish Cabana Springs would go somewhere else.. consistently one of the most boring and hateful people on this Board.
I am sorry that you all think that anyone should stay home. IMHO - that's just wrong. From now on, I will let you guys put everyone down that doesn't think like you. Maybe you guys should make a list of who you think should be on this board and the rest of us will just "stay home."
Calling someone boring is a judgemental statement from a closed minded individual.
Go team!
No more comments off topic from me.

I think my post with your name in it was up for all of 2 minutes, before I thought better of it and replaced it with something positive. Unfortunately someone was fast on the Quote button. I realize there is a "snarky culture" for boards like this, but just like fundamentalism, snarkiness--especially to newbies on this of all sites--seems such a waste.
Ill not add fuel to the fire anymore.
Peace

That's not why you wrote what you did.Cabana Springs wrote:I am not sorry for expressing my opinions by pointing out ZB's desire for others to "stay home."
I wasn't talking shit. Here's a Clue: If you're ever presented with a situation in which you suspect that there are NAZIS at a GATE, you PROBABLY DON'T WANT TO GO IN!
Sorry if that confuses you. I was raised by a man who was captured by the Gestapo and witnessed mass executions at a concentration camp at Braunau, Austria. I find the casual use of the word "Nazi" an indicator of ignorance and/or deficiency in education, but by and large keep my opinion to myself except to say that there are no such thing as Nazis at the gate of Burning Man because the natural progression of the metaphor makes Black Rock City a concentration camp, which is offensive.

I suppose this thread may be exempt because it started out with a comparison involving Nazis. Can a fish get wet if it lives in water?
We were just answering the question. At some point, by the way Godwin's Law will need to be expanded to include Osama Bin Laden, George Bush and Larry Harvey...
