hot springs?

Post by emotion_sickness » Wed Jun 13, 2007 12:29 pm

i've read in a couple books about BM that there are hot springs nearby that people trek out to...but I see no mention of them anywhere on the site. Are the hot springs off limits nowadays or do people still go out there and just keep it on the DL?
Why?

They are closed from a week before to a week after the event. Period.

Staph can't even go out there without getting the ol' stinkeye, ESPECIALLY during the official closure.

Another good reason to read the BLM permit... It sez it all...

True that -

The hot spring Nazis will be out there in full force. But really though if 5% of the people tried to use the hot springs they would be STD infected cesspools or manchowder, and mud.

Manchowder, that don't sound very tasty. I don't believe Mother Nature would appreciate a mouthful of that.

The last year I remember people sneaking off to the hot springs was in '99. Since they're offsite you had to have a contact at the back gate to let you back in.

Yeah, the springs could easily be spoiled by large numbers of people jumping in. I've also heard some of them spew toxic gases which would really ruin your day.

There's way more to do within the boundaries of the event than you could squeeze into a week anyhow. We can do our nature hikes and hot spring exploration some other time. :-)
