LAS VEGAS REGIONAL???????????????????????

Post by Das Bus » Tue Jun 19, 2007 11:11 pm

Is Dark Skies/Singularity A Regional Event??????

I think it would behoove the "communiy" to have a definite answer as
to whether or not "Dark Skies/Singularity" is an official Burning Man
Regional Event. If 'we' as a 'community' are to participate in
fundraisers to recoup debts derived from this event, we should know
exactly just what we are 'participating' in.

Is Dark Skies/Singularity a Las Vegas Burning Man Regional Event? Or a
Las Vegas Artisits' Event? If this is a combined event, then why is
there no mention of Burning Man on the Dark Skies website? And why is
the Dark Skies Survival Guide sorely lacking in the TEN PRINCIPALS of
BURNING MAN? Why is ALL discussion of the event steered ONLY to the
Dark Skies yahoo group, but not the LASVEGASBURNINGMAN yahoo group?

Who exactly decided to borrow money from other BURNING MAN REGIONALS
and the BURNINGMAN PROJECT to produce this event? There is a 'call'
out on the Las Vegas list to produce fundraisers to alleviate the debt
incurred, but where is the COMMUNITY discussion/decision to do so?

And WHO EXACTLY is the Las Vegas Regional? Is t one person? Two?
Three? or even four by proxy? Who decides this? Why does Las Vegas
need more than one Regional? Do ALL of them get free tickets to
Burning Man?

It is doubtful that any of these questions will be answered, because
it is unlikely that a dissenting view will be allowed to be posted.
However, by the off chance that one of the four moderators on this
list will allow such 'heresy', it might be prudent to ask each and
every one of the aforementioned questions.

Good questions. You might try here:
http://darkskies.tribe.net/

To me it looks like Burners do the event and focus toward that crowd but it may not be official.

From their site:
Why do you keep changing the name of the event?
To fuck with you... duh?!

Dark Skies is the local event, produced by Vegas Artists LLC. In the spring of '06, we joined together with Los Angeles to produce Singularity. Since LA had their decompression to plan & execute in the fall of '06, it went back to Dark Skies. For Spring '07, since everyone wants to see Singularity, the event will be officially called "Dark Skies Presents The Singularity Event". Beyond that, we have no idea what we're calling it.
It's an LLC that puts it on, but they got together with the L.A. decom people?

What is the issue? They take money from BMorg to put on this event?

No, they BORROWED money from other Regions and from the Project under the guise that this was a Regional event. According to two out of three LV Regionals, this was a Vegas Artists production - NOT a Regional event. However, now the LV Region is being asked to hold fund raisers to pay off the debt. If you doubt what I say, go to http://vegasartists.com and look up Dark Skies, and show me where it mentions ANYTHING about Burning Man, Las Vegas Burners, Burners in general, etc... But do it fast, 'cause as soon as one out of three Regionals reads this, I bet the website will be "under construction".

DARK SKIES - THE SINGULARITY EVENT is a 4 day art themed event, featuring a display of art, performance, music, and fire. Dark Skies is also the Las Vegas regional Burn.
It took me 16.2578 seconds to find the term "regional Burn"! What do I win?

After reading alot of whats on their website it looks to me to be an awful lot like BurningMan. I believe that since "BurningMan" is trademarked that it cannot be used without permission unless its in "parody" or "newstory". The principles are there.. you cannot bring dogs.. and for a free ticket you work your ass off. They even have a survival guide! I looked at lots of the pictures and saw bikes, boobies, booze, and blaze. I even saw a chick on stilts in one pic!

I say let the various "regional" people duke it out on their own for who wants to make/spend the most money. An LLC is a type of company, much like the BM org. Basically any time someone wants to have a "regional" they should cover their ass by having an LLC formed. This will also provide a nice fancy name that no one else can use without permission. I am not an attorney or business person so maybe someone else can better explain the whole LLC/trade name thing.

I was poking around the Regional section of the ORG website and saw that the vegasartist group is listed under there. So it looks official since the ORG has given its blessing and listed them.

An excerpt from http://regionals.burningman.com/us_nv_lv.html

Recent Events:

The Vegas crew is getting organized! We have begun producing monthly First Friday after party's called Spaced Invaders, which are purely commercial affairs designed to sell art and showcase local talent. And we are also producing the non-commercial Vegas Burning Man regional event, The Dark Skies Arts Festival, twice a year held on Roach Dry Lake by the California border.

It's on an actual Playa!

Much art, performance and talent resides in Las Vegas, but it's up to YOU to make that happen! Get on our Yahoo group and find out how to participate in building YOUR local arts scene and community! We have also formed an LLC to interface with the default world and that website is here. <(word here had link to vegasartists.com)

That's old info. Spaced Invaders is gone, and no one bothers with First Fridays anymore (well, not groupwise), and there is no longer going to be an event in the fall (although possibly a camping trip).

Plans are still up in the air for a 2008 spring event, due to increased BLM fees, so other sites are being researched.

I'm getting really sick and tired of this. The Las Vegas regional's are refusing to answer ANY questions in regards to their financial records, except to say that there was increased BLM fees.

They are also refusing to answer any questions as to why my family was banned from the dark skies/singularity event.

We have busted our asses for this event, and then have been treated like shit. I want answers to my questions. After those are answered, I would also like to know why such a big deal was made that there was an "adults only Red Light District", but then they allowed two children to camp there.
We were told no one with children could even camp close to this area, and yet, children were allowed to camp within the sex camps.
