Bees may be solitary
or may live in various types of communities.
The most advanced of these
are eusocial colonies
found among the honey bees, bumblebees, and stingless bees.
Sociality,
of several different types,
is believed to have evolved separately
many times
within
the bees.

In some species, groups of cohabiting females may be sisters,
and if there is a division of labor within the group,
then they are considered semisocial.
Image
These castes may be purely behavioral alternatives,
in which case the system is considered "primitively eusocial"
(similar to many paper wasps),
and if the castes are morphologically discrete,
then the system is "highly eusocial".

The understanding that simple physical interactions
give rise to computation
opens the door to the possibility that the physical interaction of
a body with the environment
can also be used to enhance its computational abilities.
In essence the world can become the "abacus"
for the computations of the intelligent agent.
Image
It has been found that the musculo-skeletal systems
of biological organisms
also embody the necessary characteristics to enable computation.

It is the interdisciplinary study.
It draws from converging evidence and methodology of diverse fields,
including psychology,
physics,
neuroscience,
philosophy,
computer science,
anthropology
and linguistics.
The term cognitive science was coined by Christopher Longuet-Higgins
in his 1973 commentary on the Lighthill report,
which concerned the then-current state of Artificial Intelligence research.

Cognition is a diffuse term
and is used in radically different ways
by different disciplines.
In psychology,
it refers to an information processing view
of an individual's psychological functions.

It is most commonly used for the propagation of trees and shrubs

Wider interpretations of the meaning of cognition
link it to the development of concepts;
individual minds,
groups,
organizations,
and even larger coalitions of entities
can be modelled as societies
which cooperate to form concepts.
Image
The autonomous elements of each 'society'
would have the opportunity to demonstrate emergent behavior
in the face of some crisis or opportunity.
Cognition can also be interpreted as
"understanding and trying to make sense of the world".

The term cognition (Latin: cognoscere, "to know")
is used in several loosely related ways
to refer to a faculty for the human-like processing of information,
applying knowledge and changing preferences.
Cognition or cognitive processes can be natural and artificial,
conscious and not conscious;
therefore, they are analyzed from different perspectives
and in different contexts,
in anesthesia,
neurology,
psychology,
philosophy,
systemics
and computer science.

In ethics, cognitivism is the philosophical view
that ethical sentences express propositions,
and hence are capable of being true or false.
See Cognitivism (ethics).
More generally,
cognitivism with respect to any area of discourse
is the position that sentences used in that discourse are cognitive,
that is,
are meaningful and capable of being true or false.

In aesthetics, cognitivism is the view that a work of art is valuable
if it contributes to knowledge.
In psychology, cognitivism is the approach to understanding the mind
which argues that mental function can be understood
as the 'internal' rule-bound manipulation of symbols.

In psychology, anecdotal cognitivism is a methodology
for interpreting animal behavior in terms of mental states,
comparable to the mental states of humans.
For example,
the methodology attempts to determine the cognitive capacity of animals
through observation
without the necessity that this observation be regulated or controlled
as in an experiment;
however,
behavior in an experiment can be interpreted using the methodology.

The term subconscious is defined variously as an adjective or noun.
In the strict psychological sense,
the adjective is defined
as "operating or existing outside of consciousness".
The term also appears in Sigmund Freud's very early work,
to denote the unconscious mind
but was soon eliminated due its ambiguity.
It may also be used to describe the preconscious,
information contained in the mind,
which although not presently in the conscious,
maybe recalled by "directing attention to them"

behaviorists are very critical of anecdotal cognitivism,
suggesting that controlled experiments are necessary
to correctly measure stimuli
and record observable behavior.

Anecdotal evidence is often unscientific
because it cannot be investigated using the scientific method.
Misuse of anecdotal evidence is a logical fallacy
