goddammit watch the bike lanes
Just saw a kid get nailed.. The car was judging if it could beat me.. He went for it.. I hit the brakes hard.. The kid was coming the other way on the side walk.. Knocked him into the drive lane.. I jumped off and into the lane.. Fucking cars just kept coming.. Some mom with a car full of kids blocked for us and called 911.. A por skate boarder made the cars driver park.. That asshole is telling the kid he's ok..Even after 911 was called and his leg was swelling up.. Cop didn't take to lightly to that..
In a 24 block run, Three cars raced head of me and across the bike lane .. And that asshole tryed to beat me across my lane..
I'm into loaning the cops my scooter and let them teach few some shit..
I know this should come under the thread FUCK

OMG that is awful!! Especially when you're in a designated bike lane and think you're safe...and a kid no les!?!?! Drivers in this town arent much better sadly...maybe they'll learn when gas hits $5.00 a gallon and they too are on bikes, swerving for their life to avoid some a-hole's damn suv...
Why?

I highly recommend those flags on poles that bob around.
And diamondstripe reflective tape.
I just got some reflective and fluorescent garb.
I decided a long time ago to stay on side streets as much as possible on a bike.
It's hard enough to see other cars when you're trying to dodge a monster truck on your tail.
When it comes to bikes, it doesn't matter who's right.
The guy wearing 2900 pounds of steel always comes out better, even at one mile per hour.
Be careful out there.

Spoke to the police this morning..
They told me bike lanes would go on the there shift reports.. Also if I could take lic# they would try to contact these drivers..
Remeber folks, With me it also comes under the American Disabilitys Act.. The feds pay local police to inforce it..
While I was at it, I ask they do more inforcement of the child helmet law..
The stores and police in this area give out hundreds of free hemets each year. This calls for "parent" to get there heads out of there asses

I recomend carrying a couple of 1 inch industrial ball bearings. Use to "mark" cars that won't respect bike lanes.
They are very handy when you are being tailgated while riding a motorcycle on highway... just toss gently up and they land right on the windshield.
Yea yea, I know, "it's vandalism". Don't give me a reason (trying to kill me on a motor/bike) and I won't use it.

I don't care what the borg says: feather-wearers will NOT be served in Rosie's Bar.
When I ask how many burns, I mean at BRC.

When I was a young teen (about 20 years ago), I was sitting in a parked car when I HEARD the sickening THUD of a kid getting hit by a car that just passed by. I can still hear that.unjonharley wrote:Just saw a kid get nailed.. The car was judging if it could beat me.. He went for it.. I hit the brakes hard.. I've never been a fan of bike lanes. The idea of helping people get on their bikes is a good one, but those lanes wind up forcing us way over to the right where we can't be seen. We also become much less predictable because of how we have to keep swerving back into the car lane because some delivery truck is in the way, or because the bike lane is right next to parked cars and someone throws their door open. I'll stick to less busy streets (when possible) and won't be shy about sitting right in the middle or left side of a lane when there's no safe alternative.

not too much by way of bike lane-age in Baltimore, though some of the roads have signs saying that it's a "bike route," meaning that the lane that cars are parked in is a little bit wider. I try to stay off of the crowded sidewalks for respect of pedestrians, and won't hesitate to take up an entire lane.
been riding for a while, but when I walked everywhere, I would also get pissed when I had the right-of-way in a crosswalk, with the damn walky guy light on, and people in cars would try to beat me, sometimes even speeding up and honking! or zooming through the red light during rush hour and hanging out in the crosswalk. I started getting really aggressive and smacking the hoods/trunks while making direct eye contact while saying 'IT'S A FUCKING CROSS-WALK!"
I worked with a 5-yr-old autistic girl, and hated crossing the road with her because some of the drivers were still maniacs. I'm a pretty mellow person, but boy do I rage at stuff like that.
I had a roommate that was severely fucked up by being hit by a car while on a bike. if she wouldn't have been wearing a helmet, she would've died before I ever had the pleasure of meeting her. unfortunately, and I'm not saying that I will stop wearing a helmet now, but I have noticed that since I started wearing a helmet, drivers think I'm invincible.
I've been ever so tempted to acquaint some vehicles with my U-lock.
