Dashboard, Where did ths word come from? It was the panel between you and the horses ass..

She sure had her tail over the dash .. When a horse was pissed it would put it's tail over the dashboard and fart at each step.. Then it became an expression of when a person would leave off in a huff

Some folks used to poke the horses in the side as they went by people, just to release gas.

"Haywire" was always a favorite of mine. And "sabotage", from sabot (a wooden peasant shoe) that would be thrown into the mechanical works of a Jacquard loom to produce the same results as that errant baling wire.

(mind your) P's & Q's:

Pints and quarts, the glassware beer was served in, from days of yore when glass was much more precious. When bar brawls would break out, the barmen would holler to "mind your P's & Q's" lest they get broken and need replacement at great cost.

A bug in the machine/works/system.

From the early days of building and testing mainframe computers. Moths would get into the computer and short it out. It happened so often that it was the first thing they checked when the system went down.

I always remember my epiphany one day realising how two economic terms, "currency" and "bank", both came from the same metaphor/basis of money and economics flowing like a river..it was like information that wasn't there in my head one day, then the next it was...it came one day in a restaurant, staring at a painting on the wall titled "The Bank", and the image was a girl sitting on a riverbank, and I was stupidly thinking what does that have to do with money?

Bazooka- named after an unusual musical instrument.

I prefer rpgs for light entertainment though.

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.
