Zen garden

Post by trypical » Fri Jun 29, 2007 1:08 pm

I have been racking my brain for an interactive art project for our public part of camp.

Today I thought of bringing four 2x4's and setting them on the playa in a rectangle so we could have a zen garden.

Do you think this would cause too much damage to the playa? I really like the idea but I am worried about the amount of raking and moving of rocks and stuff.

Ideas, comments, opinion, and suggestions welcome!!

Are you thinking of hauling in sand for it?

If so, i think you should bring some ply wood and nail it to bottom the 2x4's and you will not have to worry about any damage done to the playa. Another thing, if you use that idea you can jut put a large tarp under it that you can fold over the top if it gets too windy or rains, and your garden will be protected.

s thinking of just putting down the wood to sort of section off part of the playa.

I am wondering if that is kosher. the tarp idea is good thanks!

Ah, no promises the dust on the ground will be deep enough to rake.

Tarp or something like it.

Underneath the Man and some of the other burnable art they use a couple inches of coarse sand as cheap thermal insulation to prevent burn scars on the playa surface. But the BLM was also concerned about "foreign material" (eg sand & ash) on the playa and wanted a physical barrier, so they used rolls of fiberglass cloth under the sand. Some kind of tarp would do the same in your case. I trucked a ton of sand to the playa one year for a mini-beach in my camp, and just dumped it on a tarp.
