Money saving Ins/Outs

Post by BottomFeeder » Tue Jun 12, 2007 6:19 pm

Our camp this year is thinking of ways to save money. Last year our truck rental was atrocious. But, after the burn, we were able to secure a place to store our heaviest gear in Reno. This gives us the chance to save some major dough on the rentals. Instead of a week-long rental, we can rent a truck for a day, haul our stuff in, and bring the truck back. And at the end of the week we can do the same thing. Here's my question for those in the know...

Do they allow Ins and Outs for such purposes? Our camp will most likely be setting up Saturday with the other theme camps and tearing down Sunday after everything is done. Can we pay the nominal fee (is it $20 a person?) on these days to bring people in and out?

Thanks for all the wisdom.

In previous years if you leave before Sunday(26th)you merely had your ticket authorized for re-entry and there was no cost.
Be careful. You can spend all your money in there..............................Oriental Visitor

IN n OUTs

Post by munney » Sat Jul 07, 2007 11:44 pm

As far as I know, there is a charge for IN n outs, a good 20 per person, or something like that, Which goes for the whole radical self reliance thang....
as Opposed to bring it in, send out the truck, to Reno, then come back then more gas to Reno, and Back I suppose,

Ever Heard of GREEN Man? MIght cost you more $$$$ but it's better for the world to save oil/Gas.

Think!

I think they charge for a vehicle to leave, not just a person. I've gone out a few times on my bike and it was no big deal.

It's an art theme and just a suggestion. Last year I did not see everyone going around trying to scare the shit out of everyone, then telling them everything will be alright. Did you do that?

Doing exodus three times, one of which would be the opposite way from 40000 spent burners ... I sure as hell would not be willing to be that truck driver after a week and a half on the playa.

Having made an unplanned trip into Reno on Friday last year, let me tell you, it REALLY sucks to have to go back out in the middle of the event...

I'd pencil it out first.

What's the difference between the truck rental for the week vs the two days you'd actually be using it (one day to haul it in, one day to haul it out)?

Let's keep it easy and say it's $100/day so $700 vs $200. So the difference is $500. Now back out an extra round trip in gas ($100) and three day passes ($60) you're down to a savings of $340.

But the trip into Reno is all day. I left at 10am and didn't get back until 5pm. So that's 1/7th of your time in BM spent right there. Not too mention having to re-adjust yourself (read: sober up) and put on jeans and socks and shoes and underwear. Oh, and did I mention that 447 is just CRAWLING with cops? The definition of stress is having a cop parked on your ass from Nixon all the way to Gerlach. No fun at all.

I don't know, YMMV of course, and my figures might be WAAAY off, but there's definitely more hidden costs than you might think in leaving the event mid-stream.
Irony. You're soaking in it.

Add to that having to clean the rental truck TWICE.

If you are looking for a cheap room in Reno we have booked a block of rooms at the Sands Regency for a cheaper price than you'll find on the internet. Look at the Layover in Reno thread for details or send me a private message and I'll steer you in the right direction.

I believe the cost was $25 per person, and you must have your ticket in hand. I'm not sure if that's gone up this year, though it wouldn't surprise me considering the increase in ticket prices.
