What won't happen this year? Did you decide not to attend?

Children have always been at Burning Man and likely always will be. The only 18+ rule is that if you're a minor, you need to be accompanied by someone 21+ when you enter the gate. This has been the case as long as I've been attending.

It's only irresponsible if you feel it's dangerous or harmful for them. Is this how you feel? As for dragging them along - that's pretty much what happens when you're a kid. Some really enjoy their time there, some think it's all lame and would rather be at home playing video games. Same as any camping trip.

Jayheezus Phreaking Keereist!...

I played in the scortching hot freaking western Nevada desert since I was in diapers. As did most of our family. Played out at the mine when I was under 10, learned how to drive a cat and run a rock drill and do bore holes for blasting. Had desert bags for canteens. I seem to have survived...

Oh yeah. Dangerous place. MY ASS!!

Keep them hydrated, keep them under some kinda supervision, and they'll have the times of their lives. They might actually learn something. As might their parents - that their kids, given the chance to start making judgement calls and having fun outside might decide it's a lot better than being addicted to herr Gameboy and rotting inside, friendless, spouseless, familyless and glued to a TV or computer at home in their parents house until they're 50.

GAK!!!

WHY the fuck do people seem to think this camping trip in the desert is some sorta hedonistic drunken satanic freaking freak fest???

It's a fucking camping trip in fucking RURAL NEVADA. FUCK!!!

Sorry, but people who treat their kids like spoiled little porcelain dolls are cheating the shit out of their kids lives, as well as them of their prode in their offspring.

MHO...

I was quite surprised to see an event like this having the 18 or older stamp on it aswell as deeply distraught about it.

Last year was my first burn, and I was totally distraught to see children at Burning Man. It might be another story for seventeen year olds, but the children I saw obviously didn't make the decision to attend. Their parents dragged them along. I thought this was incredibly selfish and irresponsible, and I'm glad to see that it won't happen this year.

Would you take your preteen children to a death metal concert? Would you let them run around in the parking lot at a Grateful Dead show back in the day? Hopefully the answer is no. Yet I saw grade school age children all over the place last year.

Taking your kids to Burning Man is a great way to identify yourself to others as an irresponsible parent.
AHAAA HAA HAAA HAAAAaaaaa

So many awful people in this world. A friend of mine is even taking her unborn child with her this year. Shameful. Talk about no choice... Poor kid has to get dragged into even the porta potties while mom does her business.

mullingitover,

Welcome to eplaya. I always like to see new faces around here.

Regarding your first post in a more serious tone, another friend of mine took her kids to a regional burn because the kids said they wanted to go and see for themselves what it was about. You shouldn't assume that because you feel such an expierience wasn't right for you (or maybe offered to you) at that age, that everyone else should do what you think best for them.

There's some radical thought out there in that desert, so watch your step.

Trolling is too hardcore for me. I don't think I could handle it with or without a bridge over the barbed wire.
