BURNINGMAN STATS

Post by mdmf007 » Mon Jul 16, 2007 6:44 pm

Burningman Stats -

Someone asked about acres, miles etc. Heres what my GIS set up spit out.

Miles of Road - 30.45 this includes the three main roads marked by lanterns at 3:00 6:00 and 9:00 and does not include roads to airport, and to main gate

666 acres of habitable space - Spooky
40,000 persons = 60 people per acre
pretty close to 40000 people per square mile as well.

numbers are slightly different every time I do this, as I am working off of a google earth map, and am not busting my ass for accuracy so it could be off a hair.

Oh, come on.
How about square feet per person?
How many art cars per mile of road?
How many bicycles?
How many cubits of road per bike?
I know you have a few more details.
What is the actual vertical curve of the playa?

How about the average speed of an art car in furlongs per fortnight?

How 'bout in football fields per jiffy?

[I swear, a "jiffy" is an actual unit of time. I just found it on wikipedia, so it must be true. Here's the URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiffy_%28time%29.]

Hmmm...I wonder how many "lube jobs" take place in a "jiffy" at Camp Jiffy Lube? I don't have any personal experience in this area, mind you, just intellectual curiosity.

mdmf007, do you think you could do some research in this area? Naturally, it would be to the sake of "SCIENCE!"

I'll wait here, eagerly anticipating the results of your research.
...but it seemed like such a good idea at the time...

Now I'm curious...

The event will begin with 800 porta-potties placed...
with 11 banks including one each handicapped and urinal units...
we'll call it 25 to bring in the medical annexes...
That's 775 basics at 44"x48"x91" =4,137,467 cubic yards
and 25 at 60x72x91 (estimate) =273,000 cubic yards

Porta-potties: The Largest Participatory Art Project on the Playa
I'll be in my blanket fort until further notice.

Curvature of BM -
a2 = 3963(sq) + x(sq) = 15705369 + x(sq)
Using pythagoras a2+b2=c2

with the known diameter of the earth is 3963
and x is the 1.64 miles across BM camp.

or 8 inches of curvature per mile. BM being 1.64 miles across, represents a 15 inch bubble in the middle from a flat plane.

also-
Robbi your maths flawed a little -

one shitter at 44 x 48 x 91 = 4.11932 yds a piece x 775 =3192.49 yards
one shitter at 60 x 72 x 91 = 8.42592 yds a piece x 25 = 210.64 yards

for a total of 3403.138. Still a heck of a lot of poo. My OCD kicked in and please take no offense to the correction. I have nothing to do right now, and am tired of counting the ceiling tiles and wall tiles.

I'm told the playa has it's own curve or bulge.
Did you figure that in?
And why does the esplanade always seem uphill?
Must be an illusion.

Ah... but that's the total volume of the crapper itself. What about the actual volume of crap pumped out of them over the course of the event?

Cant answer for the Black Rock Bulge - I am told its from water pressure, maybe I read that somewhere?

4MPH - maximum speed for art car = 32,174.1768 Furlong / fortnight conversion.

couldnt find a value for a jiffy.

I'm not offended at all. I don't do math, so thanks for the correction. I was kind of expecting I was err'ed.

As far as volume, that has more to do with # of trucks, frequency of truck emptying, volume of storage tanks, etc, etc, etc. I don't have any numbers of total sludge pumped last year, but I can find out. What really screws with this number would be the FUCKOS that pour gray water in them.

True Facts:

And yet, no participant had fallen off the face of the earth at Burning Man.

But thousand try each year.

Water pressure or the Black Rock volcano.
Something has to power those hot springs.

Hey if we get enough people dancing on the playa at what point does it turn into quicksand much like an earthquake?

That could be the population limit to black rock city!
