Hi all,
We've contacted the BM Wedding people, so we know what we need to do on the American front. We've also contacted the Ontario Gov't to see what requirements they have (surprisingly none). It's all seeming just a little too simple and we're now finding ourselves worrying that we're overlooking something... we really want the Playa ceremony to be official in Canada. Can any Canucks who've gotten hitched in BRC let us know of anything we haven't thought of?
Thanks
Canadians getting married at BM and looking for advice

your marriage will be legal and recognized as lon as it is legal where you did it.
Heres the skinny:
1. Picture ID issued by a government
2. There is no residency requirement
3. you must be single
4. No blood tests required
5. Proxy marriages not allowed - both parties must be present
6. No common Law Marriages
7. Cousin Marriages - No closer related than Second Ciusins or Cousins of Half Blood (YeeHaw)
8. Under 18- Must have parent or guardian present - Under 16 Your shut out of luck.
9. Officiant - any ordained clergyman, priests, or justice of the peace can perform.
10. Licenses can be obtained at the county seat.
Pretty simple, witnesses are easy to find, and clergyman are easy to find. If you want a friend to marry you they can get ordained at http://www.themonastery.org/
Its free and online. Do that print off your license and your an ordained minister and can marry people.
Most of the above info came from http://marriage.about.com/cs/marriageli ... nevada.htm
hope this helps, later

What county is the burn in and are there boundaries close enough to worry about?
Louise and I got married in Washoe County, and used the Incline Village Office of the clerk; for Burning Man, you probably will find the Reno office better located; see
http://www.washoecounty.us/clerks/marriage_bureau.php
for the address and hours of both marriage bureaus, plus costs and requirements of getting the license. (Note the photos near the top of the page.)
FAQ at
http://www.washoecounty.us/clerks/mlb_faqs.php
contains information on proper ID, prior divorce proceedings, and such.
Pershing County's Web site is pretty sucky, requiring Java to navigate:
http://www.pershingcounty.net/marriage%20Licenses.htm
for marriage license;
http://www.pershingcounty.net/clerk.htm
for the office address and contact information for the clerk's office.
If we're in Humboldt County,
http://www.hcnv.us/clerk/clerk.htm
which gives contact information.

In 04 (when I got married) it was in Pershing county and we had to go to lovelock for the liscence. As I understand the permit (and I do find it puzzling) it will be in the same space this year.

Thanks for the input!
We were told we have to go get our licence in Lovelock (Reno is in a different county), so that'll be taken care of on Friday before the Burn. We've been introduced to an officiant through the BM Wedding coordinators, so we're good to go on that front too.
My concern is more in regards to what we need to do in Canada pre or post-wedding to ensure the legality of the ceremony performed at BM.
The Ontario gov't information site is telling us they have nothing to do with marriages performed outside its jurisdiction and that we simply need to produce our wedding licence whenever a status change will be required in the future.
Is that it? I guess that's it... I suppose I'm surprised we don't have to jump through more hoops.
