Big Brother in your pocket
Frightening. Reactions?
The FBI appears to have begun using a novel form of electronic surveillance in criminal investigations: remotely activating a mobile phone's microphone and using it to eavesdrop on nearby conversations.

This has been going on since 2003, possibly longer. When I first heard about it in 03 it was used against some mob guy and a ton of information was obtained. On a side note OnStar is also being used to monitor criminals and one can also turn on PC mics and webcams with a trojan that can be dropped into a machine via a webpage. Even more off topic.. Ever hear of the snitch/narc getting exposed exposed because the dealer had a police scanner running on his table?

Saw a special the other day about the Cold War and the CIA using animals. They showed their cat project where a cat had a microtransmitter implanted under the skin. The idea was that since cats are everywhere, noone would notice a stray walking around while some covert action was going on. Now think about how long ago that was, imagine the technology available today!

TOTOWA, N.J.—A former police officer struck two people with his car in a municipal parking lot, then shot and wounded a Totowa officer who returned fire and killed him Monday night.
If a Cop can do this as a former, then what would stop him from doing while he's a cop.
You can fuck someone up in many ways and never arrest him for breaking a law using a simple device like a bug to get personal and business information.
I hear they like those nice built in video cams and mic on your laptop too.
Joel I would worry if I was you. You're one of those Republican trouble makers and the Dems are inside your computer knowing who you send those Resumes to! Then one of them sends your internet profiles to those companies about your sexual habits and posts on eplaya. What was that machine you were trying to sell: the Orgasmatron was it!
You don't need to break a law to have someone fuck up YOUR life. They just need information. Thats All!
I might be green, but I can burn brite with the help of my playa friends!

Telephone lines can be used as the transmission medium for devices called "infinity transmitters" or "harmonica bugs". These are covert listening devices connected either inside a target's telephone or somewhere along the telephone line and activated by calling the number. The circuitry silences the ringer long enough for the eavesdropper to send a control tone that activates the microphone. This allows surveillance to be conducted from anywhere in the world, hence the name "infinity". With the advent of remotely programmable mobile telephone technology (smartphones, etc.), this technique can be used without having to plant anything. Called "roving bugs", it involves the upload of surveillance software to the target phone.
could you cite your source for that please?? sounds fishy to me...Aiee!
