Okay, yes, I'm being a ninny. And if black powder is the same shit inside a peeled open Black Cat firecracker, then, yes, I have played with it before.

And, yes, shit got blowd up.

... But as a playa gift? Really? Some guy gives you a vial of black powder and says it's black powder made from the charred remains of different art projects and you should light it?

Oh, wait. I just got. That is pretty cool, actually.

Actually BP is not what is inside of a typical chinese firecracker. The firecracker powder is known as flash powder. It burns more swiftly and has a bright flash. Black powder burns at a relatively slow rate depending on the size of the granuals.

We veterans used to throw firecrackers at people for laughs.

It's about trust: that the giftee is not about to abuse it.

Ah, the good ol' days. How many times I misjudged the fuse burn rate and had the firecracker go off in my fingers. The worst time was when I had it back beside my head in the middle of throwing it. My ear still rings.

I still have patches of skin that get hard and flaky in the wintertime, after flashcooking 'em with black powder one very, very long 4th of July ago...My own damn fault and DAMN that hurt! But anyone who's read the back of their ticket should know what they're gettin' into, I guess.
