I will be Burning this year with a small group. Sadly, our group will be coming in waves & I've heard rumors that there will be an address registration thing-a-ma-bob at center camp which our late-comers can use to find our camp...
Is this true?
If so, what kind of registration process is involved & how can a regular joe like myself gain access to this once we've established our campsite?
What is the capital of Nebraska?
And just where in the world IS Carmen San Diego?
Any help or ridicule will be greatly appreciated...
Domo,
...d.

Logging your address for late comers
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill & a laxative on the same day!
Yes! This has been around for some time. Somewhere in the ring surrounding center camp is a place called Playa Info. They have computers (and I think cards as a backup system) where you can register the location of a camp or person. One important note - make sure you all agree ahead of time on a camp name you'll use! Try to come up with something unique. Or, use your real names and make sure everyone knows what those are.
The method I've used in the past has been like this - agree to a general location (such as 4:30 and G). When you arrive, park on the side of the road near that spot and walk/bike to center camp. See if anyone else has arrived and registered already. If not, go find a spot, then register. If you know you're the first group, you can skip the first trip.

It can get pretty confusing out there. Dork has a pretty good suggestion which probably works the majority of the time. Another thing you might want to do is to decide on a specific place (use a well known landmark such as the Man, Greeters Station, the very center of Center Camp, etc.) and let your parties know that someone will be there each day at , say noon, 3:00pm and 6:00pm.
Just a thought.

Whoever you are and whenever you get there, register at playa info.
And a sign on your tent is not a bad idea, unless you don't want to be found.
Camps should have legible signs near the street.
That huge billboard you have may not be seen at night, but a two foot legible sign by the road will be.
Or do you like answering "Dude, who the hell are you and what does your camp do?" every couple of minutes?
And if you look like a theme camp and aren't, good info to put up too.

"Everything is more wonderful when you do it with a car, don't you think?"

It would be a shame if I had to resort to self-deception to preserve my faith in objective reality.
