Need Semi Tractor to Bring our 45' Trailer

Anyone know of any burner friendly semi drivers in Denver or passing through?

We plan to buy a 45' dry van to bring the Black Rock Glacier to BRC, and also for storage after the event.

We need a one way, Power Only, transport around Aug. 18 or 19.

If you know of a trailer for sale in Denver / Boulder, let us know.

If you know a trucker in the area that might help us check out the trailer or assist with logistical planning, please get in touch!

Bought a used semi trailer once to fit out as a crushing plant control center. We did all the controls work, then arranged to have it hauled

Needed:

hitch rebuild
3 tires
new brake linings
air accumulator valve, or something like that
air hose

Have a knowledgeable trucker or trailer service person inspect before you buy.

Also, find out up front what it takes to have the trailer licensed and registered. Plus, what permits will you need to cross state lines? How much will they cost?

There's always independents looking for work, but I don't know the going rates, mylarry is a company driver, heavy haul, so I only know what he gets paid, not what the company charges to move freight. Sorry, he's not available, he's going to Burning Man at that time.

There are magazines at truckstops with tractors and trailers for sale, check it out on the professional driver's side.

You can buy a piece of crap tractor for as little as 5-6K, its gonna smell like ass, and be ugly. As long as it can stop your golden. You can then resell on the ass end of BM, you'll need a driver, and insurance at a minimum.

You can rent frm Penske, or another carrier, for 1700.00 a month plus fuel obviously, still need insurance, and a driver.

tractor rates right now for a drop job are at least 2.00 a mile, with a fuel surcharge. they would drop off, and pick up. If you ccan arrange it, have them drop the weekend before, and pick up on Tuesday after. or you'll be paying for a drivers time as well in the exodus line, and ingress.

Also NO WAY YOU CAN GET A TRAILER OVER 40' OVER THE TRACKS ON JUNGO/SULFUR ROAD FROM WINNEMUCCA. I have advocated using Jungo road for years now but the rail crossings are too high, trailers, unless they have no under frame parts will not be able to transit the rail crossings as the berm is to high.

Buying a tractor trailer combo, puts you under commercial vehicle rules.. which I imagine makes insurance and registering costs much more.. I happen to be a driver..class A...but am in California.I drive a Peterbilt day cab, with 53 foot trailers and 48s.. One of my dispatchers is trying to sell his deuce and a half...you know..the big troop carriers with the canvas tops..not a fifth wheel, but can pull a good sized trailer with a pintle hook,. Its Vietnam era, and runs good Im told, just needs filters and an oil change...It is multi fuel..you can run it on diesel, kerosene..and possibly even bio diesel. The bed itself, is huge..and comes with the bars and canvas cover. It registers month to month..and as long as its registered as a relic. Think hes asking 3500 for it...pm me if interested

At this point we are looking two possible 45' dry van trailers, Wood sides for $1500, and Aluminum sides for $2000. Spring Suspensions.

Powersource Transportation has their own fleet of Power Only Tractors, and has quoted us $2223.25 for the move.

The idea of cutting open part of the roof for crane access might be risky with the possibility of wind rippping open the rest of the box!

A tractor combo is indeed a commerical set - Very simple if your using it for personnal uses. You dont even need a USDOT # unless your for hire. "not for hire" rigs are used all the times to haul private goods.

even if you did need a dot number they are fre, and assigned online in 45 seconds.

so thats a viable option.

duece and a halfs are great, but slow.

theirs a TA off I-80 just west of denver, and a Flying J or Pilot, somewhere near Denver..you might make the trip, go to the truckers lounge, and ask for an Owner Operator. ask them what they'd charge.. I remeber, alot of owner ops, sitting around, waiting for loads. Might be your easiest option..although most of them probably have their own trailers..might want to charge for storage..just a thought
