Whatcha gonna do with your hair this year?

Post by sunn » Sun Jul 29, 2007 4:53 pm

I love the long yarn look but how do you do it? I did ribbons and braids alot last year, it also kept the playa dust to a minimum.

Use a lot of leave-in conditioner too cause my hair gets so dry. Wore a hat but then discovered how nice a loose scarf is that doubles for a face maske in dust storms. I'm not really a hat person!

What about you?

I'm not much of a hat person either, but out there I love them. I put a pair of goggles around the hat, and I'm ready to go. About my actual hair, my hair dresser is going to surprise me.

Hair was soooo 20 years ago.

Now my beard, I'm going for micro braids for the deep beard, pointy goatee in my natural salt-n-pepper over those and with the chops au-natural with perhaps a full bleach to platinum.

I have ~ dozen cowboy hats.

Who needs hair when you have a sexy head like me. I got a mesh hat for shade and a khaki ranger boonie hat for evenings. I also have a bunch of headwraps to keep under my hat soaked with cool water from my hydro pack.

Hey for all you guys who don't need to worry about playa hair conditions...make sure you stop in at our Summer of Love bar for the Love Potion No. 9 drink. It's guaranteed to put hair on your chest, I mean, uh...head.

Every morning I brush it and re-braid it. One braid down the back. I wear a t-shirt sleeve over the top to keep the flyaways out of my eyes.
Either I wear a big floppy canvas hat or a prairie bonnet. Every 3-4 days I wash it, and let the conditioner soak in while I wash the rest of my bod.
Every night before going to sleep, I unbraid my hair so it doesn't get matted up in the night.
This has worked for 8 years and my hair is past my butt.

My hair is past my butt, too, but Louise makes me clean it off the couch every week.

ethnic hair supply shops have bright coloured neon hair extensions that can be braided into your real hair, or yarn can be braided in,,, but a bitch to unknot....

going for the shaved bald head with colorful welding cap look...'cause I don't have much hair left on top anymore anyway. Woven Tibet hat for night-time excursions.

I've been rocking the shaved-head thing for the last few years, and that's pretty much what I'll be doing this year as well. Dreads (real, faux, and yarn) are always popular, though - chances are you can find someon in your area who can do the work for you. Check on Tribe, or put the call out here, perhaps you can connect with another burner with the skills - you'll benefit from the style/cut/look you want, and your hard earned goes into the hands/pockets of a fellow burner. Kind of like the rotary club... on crack :-)

I do a wide mohawk that can be trimmed back down and still be vaguely professional when I get back home. When I had long hair, I used to do the braided extensions. I would have a couple friends put them in; takes about 4+ hours so they'd better be good friends. Failing that, if you go to a hair salon in area area with a significant African American population, they'll be able to do it for you.

I just quit my job to go to Burning Man, so I'm going to go with the mohawk.

Green highlights! Then again, that's pretty normal for me, but hey, I matched my current color to the theme.

I'm going to bring some cornstarch for my hair, too. If you sprinkle some on and brush it in, it makes unwashed hair perk up again a bit and look much less greasy. It does leave you looking a bit dusty if you have dark hair, but I figure I'll be looking dusty no matter what I do, so why not?

Now it's shoulder length, no danger...

Anyone remember that spray-on "hair cleaner" from the 70's, called "Pssssst!" ? Basically spray-on cornstarch... *snork*

robbi, that's interesting that you *un*braid your hair at night to keep it from tangling. When i had my three feet o' hair, i'd braid it at night to *keep* it from tangling. *grin* Just a quick loose one, that i could throw over the top of the pillow so as not trap myself rolling over on it.
Heh, the only thing worse than trapping yourself by laying on your hair is being trapped by the honey laying on your hair.

"Honey? Honey, that's my hair. Babe, can you roll over please? Honey, i can't move, you're laying on my hair. Honey...?
WAKE UP, DAMMIT!
What? No, i didn't say anything, but could you pleeeease roll off of my hair, i can't move.
Thank you, dear."
I'm just trying not to be liveMOOP...

It's just more comfortable to sleep in. I've lived with butt-length hair most of my life. It doesn't get tangled in bed, unless I'm doing gymnastics with someone. But if that should ever occur, I just leave it in a braid.
I'll be in my blanket fort until further notice.

Mine's now bloooooo!

Still haven't decided if I'm going to let it hang loose or have it braided up, or try to do something fancy with it, dust and all. I understand what playa dust and wind will do to my precious locks, but I also want to have a little fun with it.

Any ideas on fun things to do with long hair that's not confining it to a braid on the playa for all eternity?
