Bridge Collapses in Twin Cities
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/08/01/bridge ... index.html

This happened today during rush hour. Wednesday evening is when the Twin Cities Burners get together at a local coffee shop. Karine was heading into there tonight, and would have been using this bridge, but was not on it (Something I am ever thankful for, and yet mindful that others are not so lucky this evening). Cell phone lines are apparently jammed up, but she got through on a land line to let me know she was ok.
I haven't heard from any others in that area such as Zulegoona. If you hear from anyone in that area, or you are a Twin Cities burner, please check in and let us know you're ok.

hope everybody is safe.
Now it wouldn't be me if I didn't say the following....

Who wants to spend money on fixing infrastructure when guns, tanks, bombs, and missiles are so fucking cool? Unless you're an engineer and concrete makes you hard in more ways than one, it takes blood and guts being spilled (or it's an election year and jobs are at stake) in order to get anything infrastructure related fixed.cowboyangel wrote:hope everybody is safe.

Once the news media has moved on to the next big thing, watch how Congress will dilly-dally over fully funding SAFETEA-LU. This incident is just a momentary blip in the radar, give it 6 weeks and it will be back to business as usual, the concrete continues to crumble, the steel continues to get weaker...and we inch ever closer to a repeat performance of the 35W collapse....
By the way I wonder how Gov. Pawlenty feels about that gas tax veto now that MN is looking a potentially over half a billion dollars in extra federal funds coming in... and they have the ear of DC to get more funding? He was right all along and the next couple of weeks will prove it.

You heard it here first, folks! Let the conspiracy theories blossom! It was the Illuminati in league with the Council on Foreign Relations in a move to distract us from the imminent Canadian invasion. ZOG! ZOG! ZOG! Bechtel lost so much money on that Cingular contract they need the bucks from re-building bridges to pay off guerrillas in Colombia, something about bananas . . .Isotopia wrote:Twin Towers, Twin Cities. Please....this ain't the grassy knoll discussion board.
It's a 40 year old bridge and it had documented issues. It came close to being out of spec when 3 trucks rolled across it in a line while stress measurements were being taken several years back. Then there's also questions on if the de-icing system that MNDOT installed to fix their nastiest black ice problem area in the Twin Cities had anything to do with this...so if you want to discuss disaster theories there's one for ya that might actually be productive!
