The theme camp announcement "PLACEMENT ANNC #6,'07" covered weekend arrival. In that mail it said:

We will review your request, and if it seems
reasonable, we will approve the number.
Approval will be given by JULY 30th at the latest.

Today is August 1 and as far as I know, nobody has heard anything. I think one can conclude from this that they were overwhelmed with requests and are now faced with the difficult task of rationing a limited number of early arrival spots. Of course everyone wants weekend arrival, and many theme camps need it. In particular, plaza camps are required to be operational Monday, and without weekend arrival this is completely impossible.

Can anyone shed any light on when we might find out about weekend arrival? Is there anyone from BMOrg monitoring this list who would care to comment or set our expectaions?

If you are not the coordinator for your theme camp, then you need to get in touch with the coordinator for your theme camp.

If you are the coordinator for your camp, then check the emails you've received since you registered. You should find contact names and email addresses.

Offhand, I'm not sure if anyone from theme camps or placement reads these boards regularly. I can tell you that messages I've written directly to placement team people have been ignored - not sure if it's because they're inundated, don't give a damn, or just don't like me

Also eagerly awaiting word on early arrival and initial contact from our placer, which seemed to be imminent judging by the tone of the placement email a few days ago.... Guess they must be busy busy busy!

I am indeed the coordinator of my theme camp (Nose Fish). I have been carefully monitoring my email, and have been communicating with other theme camp operators via tribe.net and directly via email. Nobody has had word yet on weekend arrival.

I have all the contact information I need, but I will not send email to the placers or the placement team. They are obviously too busy dealing with things. I don't want to add to their burden.

I do not think you should take their lack of reply personally. Their lack of reply is probably for the same reason as the cause of no news from them about weekend arrival. I would not be surprised if the delay was perhaps due to them going back to BLM to request that a larger number of people be allowed in for weekend arrival. I would not be surprised to hear that the number of people requesting weekend arrival was so great that rationing the privilege would leave very many theme camps disappointed, with only a fraction of the people they requested being let in.

I choose to trust that they are doing all that they can for us, and the delay is ultimately in our best interest.

We too have been wondering about this.We will agree with above sentiments on why but what is the harm of sharing this information if July 30th was the penultimate date for confirmation.

We are a small camp of ten with half coming from outside the country.We assumed that since we got ten pases(and needed all ten for set up by Monday) for last year we would get the same this year and encouraged them to come with us for set up on Saturday.Now we don not know if that is possible.Meanwhile our OS campers are in limbo not knowing if they will need to change their plans or not.

We do bring,however, some scuttlebut from well connected sources that goes like this " If your camp had too many requests you have most likely been notified.meaning that if you were not notified your camp should get its full amount of requests."

Would not make firm plans based on this,as unsubstantiated by anyone official,but makes some sense.

I think there was probably a gentler way to raise awareness than this. While shock and awe is the favored approach of some, I have found that allowing someone a more graceful way of recognizing their effects on others more often results in a change of attitude. Your mileage may vary, but the harsh approach tends to keep people from hearing more than the gentler alternatives, because they are too focused on the pain and indignity they feel. It is too easy for them to write off their critic as unreasonable or personally defective without hearing the intended message. Peace -- hoco.

Alas, the gentler alternatives don't work. Plenty of us have tried and tried and tried. End result? Eplayans become curt when hearing the same nonsense over and over, phrase a remark as self-centered as mener did and get harsh reality kicking yer bum. I think of it as the virtual equivalent of a dust storm. A pre-playa survival ritual.

Anyway, the tone of the reply matched the tone of mener's post, not aimed at you at all. Reasonable questions tend to get reasonable responses. Whiny me-me-mes get told to fuck off. Some folks just need that boot to the head, and I am very glad there are people here who excel at delivering kicks.

I'll just chime in to say don't come early unless you're on an early arrival list! You most likely will get turned away. One issue is that the BLM is trying to get the BM Org to pay user fees for some of the event's setup days. In order to fight that fight, the BM Org needs to be able to demonstrate to BLM officials that prior to the start of the event access is restricted, and that the gate staff has a handle on keeping things under control.

If you're just looking to start the party a bit sooner, my recommendation is to get a room in Reno for the weekend. Have a playa pre-game/pre-compression shindig there (or take a bit more time getting those last-minute things together) and make your way onto the dust on Monday at the start of the event.

Yes, they (Aqua) acknowledged my request. I know they have received it. And, I know they will grant us some weekend arrivals because as plaza camp (Nose Fish) we are required to be operational on Monday, which would be impossible without at least some weekend arrivals.

sorry for the delay. weekend-arrival passes started going out
by email on wednesday, so lots of camps have them already.
it just turned out to be a more massive undertaking than expected,
thanks for everyone's patience, no disrespect intended. our
heads hurt too

each pass had to be converted to a pdf, and each emailed out
separately. many many thousands to keep track of and to send out.
have been watching them go out for a few days now, so keep an
eye out for them, they're on their way.

please remember, they're going directly to the
main contact-person of each camp, and some has lots of files
attached. don't know how that affects delivery, my geekiness
is severely limited. if you're really really concerned about
something, contact your placer. as always!

Now, I just hope that I forwarded them all, correctly...
